He did well for us 1 goal every 3 games.
Who was the last to do that for us.
Plus he can hold a ball.

Byron Harrison in his first spell - 27 goals in 56 games.
Scott Quigley - 35 goals in 73 games.
Tyler Smith - 10 goals in 23 games.
All better players than Richie Bennett.
I watched Bennett playing for Sutton on TV near the end of the season and he was very poor. However, he is big and wins a lot in the air so could be a good foil for a nippy striker like Waters. Manager certainly seems to have identified the areas which need strengthening and seems to be bringing in a decent blend of youth and expeience but we shall find out soon enough.

Not sure how Wild will set us up to play, but we have seen how effective Andrew and Holloway could be when required. Might give us options, and I'm fine with him being back. As someone else has said, we are developing some height in the squad. So often I've thought opposition teams seem to tower over us. Maybe no longer!

For me, once Quigley left, Bennett was always an obvious fill in. A little surprised it took us so long to get him back. He’s probably good for half a dozen goals.but could double that with assists. Had we had him last season I think we may have fared (a little) better.

We have signed a lot of tall players so far.
Bennett 6ft 4 in
McLelland 6ft 3 in
Nwabuokei 6ft 3 in
Warren 6ft 0 in
Foley 6ft 0 in
Waters 5ft 9 in

Maybe not a bad thing as we had a lot of smaller players on the books. A mixture and balance is a good thing.

My recollection of Bennett from the Paul Cox team is as a No 10 playing off Harrison. He was never really used as a target man, I always liked him, he worked hard dropping back into midfield but used to frustrate you by constantly fouling his man when tracking back and leading with his right arm instead of jumping for high balls. People wanted Ross Hannah in the team instead initially. Not sure where he’ll figure for us, it seems he was mostly a sub last season for Sutton. Also not sure what Wild is seeing if he thinks he’ll bring pace to the team!

In the Cox team, there were lots of long, high balls hit in the direction of Bennett and he was able to head on many into space for the pre-injury Harrison who was very quick and could beat most defenders for pace. At that time, Harrison was very quick and was also a very good finisher as his scoring record showed. My guess would be that Pete Wild is hoping Bennett will win lots of balls around the penalty area and Waters who is very nippy in the penalty area will get on the end of a good few but we shall see.

I was saying its been along time since we had someone with as many goals apart from Quigley..
Bennett left the club after 2017 so while he was here he scored a few goals and we made money
How many players have we had in the last 3 seasons that had a strike rate of one goal in 3 games.

Huttons never a defender in a month of Sundays for me. Powder puff in a tackle and he cost us a number of goals last season with his poor defending. Definitely one I would be looking to ship out.
