Well that was clinical by Brazil. Gutsy performance earlier in the day by Japan, but they really need to learn how to take penalties. They were truly awful.

Just two matches to go before we get to the Quarter Final stage.

Just a reminder re scores predictions at the knockout phase. The result is the score at the end of EXTRA TIME. Goals scored in penalty shoot do not count in the goals tally. For example, the game previously (Japan v Croatia) was resulted at 1-1 (to get 5 points).

Bob Steed leads the way by 8 points, but there are still quite a few in the chasing pack.

(1) Bob Steed 196
(2) Craig Fallows 188
(3) Neil Fawdrey 187
(4) Chris Lloyd (A) 184

Well, it started with 32 teams and 64 games. We are now down to the final 8 teams and 8 games.

Well, are we going to see a repeat of the 2018 World Cup final (Croatia v France). England and Argentina will certainly be hoping not.

The first two quarter finals going to penalties definitely curbed the scoring in our competition, and Croatia springing the surprise on that side of the draw.

Still quite tight at the top with Bob Steed still out front with just 6 games to play. All eyes on the big one tonight!!

(1) Bob Steed 223
(2) Grant Fallows (A) 217

England > Penalty(ies) :-(

Not to be, once again. We have seen referees as poor as that in League 2!!

To be beaten by the current World Champions is no disgrace, and it was a good performance in the second half.

We have a new front runner on our leader board in Chris Lloyd with 4 games to go.

A step too far for Morocco, but they have done remarkably well beating some of the pre-tournament favourites in Belgium, Spain and Portugal.

Within a few days, the World Cup and of course our predictions competition will be over. Hope everyone has enjoyed it and the updates, even if, like me, haven't troubled the scorers too much and have not seen the head heights of the top of the leaderboard.

After 4 weeks, 64 games, 172 goals (during open play) and a fair bit of drama it has to be said, the World Cup is over.

For once, the final lived up to its hype and was a tremendous game of football. Similar to the final, our competition came down to the wire with the top 3 places dependant on the result on Sunday.

Once again, a big thank you to Barrow AFC for providing the splendid first prize of a shirt signed by the 2022-23 squad, and four hospitality tickets for a home game at the So Legal stadium (2022-23 season). Prizes will be sent out this week.

Congratulations to our top 3;

First Prize (signed shirt and 4 x hospitality tickets) : Craig Fallows
Second Prize $40 : Mark Leitch
Third Prize £20 : Neil Fawdrey

The final leaderboard looks like;
