Just a bit of fun
Re: Just a bit of fun
If we were to lose on Saturday the naysayers would be straight out of the woodwork. "Just saving themselves for Chelsea" and "Couldn't beat a team who have conceded eight goals in their last two games" would be just two of the comments. On the flip side if we increase Newports' woes possibly adding another four to their goals against column we could go top if Notts Co and Gillingham draw their top two clash. This would surely be a massive confidence boost for Tuesday.

Re: Just a bit of fun
Spot on Skipper. The poster did say that this was a bit of fun but your points are well made. We play Newport on Saturday and in reality if we lose that through an abject performance then very few of use would then see this as proof that we were going to turn over Chelsea a few days later. Just the opposite in fact.SKIPPER wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 9:26 am If we were to lose on Saturday the naysayers would be straight out of the woodwork. However I’m sure that there are one or zealous souls out there that would then assert on the forum that “the Prophecy” was about to come true.
After Chelsea we have Gillingham away and then Doncaster away. The bookies would suggest we’ll lose both of those. So accept a loss to Newport as part of some mythical “deal” and we could quickly find ourselves on a losing run. Be careful what you wish for.

3pts v Newport all day long, just hope a few New fans seeing Barrow for the first time v Chelsea can be told we are at home on Saturday and get themselves along to watch.

Re: Just a bit of fun
Having said all of that, offer me the deal again with us beating Chelsea and giving up the Gillingham game. That might be more attractive as a proposition. Can anyone make that happen please?

An independent Republic of Furness could win the World Cup and you’d still find someone moaning about something.
Some of our fans are only happy when they have something to complain about, the miserable weirdos.
As for the hypotheticals, I’d take beating Chelsea in a heartbeat. Would anyone have swapped beating Stevenage in the Trophy final for 3 more League points? Of course not.

3 points Saturday please. After Saturday we play Gillingham and donny away. A win on Saturday means draws or a draw and a loss alot less damming

Let's make the comparison with the last time we played a knockout match against a Premier League club who put out a team of peripheral players.
Aston Villa wasn't it?

Re: Just a bit of fun
Saturday is far more important. The chances of anything but a defeat at Chelsea are negligible and I just hope we can keep the score respectable.
Re: Just a bit of fun
I'm honestly bemused by so many people preferring a league win against Newport to what would be an evening of total ecstasy, an everlasting memory, and one of the greatest moments of Barrow AFC history if we were to win at Stamford Bridge.
Even leaving aside the emotion and thinking about it rationally, dropping 3 points on Saturday could easily make zero difference to our league position at the end of the season. And the likely extra big payday that beating Chelsea would give us in the next round might be used to fund an upgrade (or two) in the January transfer window. And that upgrade may pay back the 3 dropped points and then some more on top.

Not sure the Head Coach will be keen to drop points at Gillingham.

This was my thinking, but you put it so better than I did. Beat Chelsea and get a BIG prem team away the following round possibly could net the club pushing a million pounds.Spanner wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:08 pm I'm honestly bemused by so many people preferring a league win against Newport to what would be an evening of total ecstasy, an everlasting memory, and one of the greatest moments of Barrow AFC history if we were to win at Stamford Bridge.

I’ll stick my neck out and say we’ll win on Saturday and lose on Tuesday
Re: Just a bit of fun
But then again, it could make all the difference. If the ref hadn't decided to give a penalty for handball three years after it happened at Crawley, or if Newby's goal hadn't have been disallowed, then Crawley wouldn't be in League One now, 'cos they wouldn't have been in the play-offs, we would. What's that they say?... fine margins.

Anybody who believes we will win at Chelsea should be having a bet because the odds are 50/1 and bookies aren't known for being generous!AugustusCorpa wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 2:09 pm I’ll stick my neck out and say we’ll win on Saturday and lose on Tuesday![]()

Yep, latest odds at Paddy Power:russell_anderson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 3:00 pmAnybody who believes we will win at Chelsea should be having a bet because the odds are 50/1 and bookies aren't known for being generous
Chelsea win 1/25 (place £10, win 40p; yeah, I'll 'ave some o' that!)
Barrow win 50/1 (place 20p, win back the £10 you lost betting on Chelsea!)
Of course, it could also end in a 90-minute draw (14-1), in which case you've lost your £10.20!
