There's no need for a gushy statement from the club, factual and a short thanks will do. And don't forget he's just turned us down.

He was voted player of the year in both his first season and last season with us hardly "recency bias" imo

Was still developing as an adult when he arrived. But came with high expectations and he lived up to those expectations more often than not. Definitely gonna be a tough act to follow.
