All these roles were advertised in May. Like Wintergreen is intimating and its obvious to most the club are struggling to recruit. It is no different to many others in the hospitality sector.

Im very sorry too say have you seen the current unemployment figures in town and do I again need to state the obvious how are barrow raiders managing to function?

The raiders are functioning simply because they have had a beer garden open Fri, Sat and Sunday for most of the summer plus the euros. They have the room to put music events on too.If you were looking for a job in hospitality your obviously going to go for the one offering the most work. Barrow AFC have not got the room to do anything on the scale the rugby have done so are not in the position to offer anyone the same hours for similar work. and good luck to them its done well.
Maybe those currently working at Craven Park will come across the Holker st in the near future. After all the rugby only have 4 home games left and once the summer ends they willl be looking for work

Both clubs have a friendly relationship don’t they, They could share resources when required, Rugby will be winding down operations shortly as the Euro’s will be over & Covid restrictions eased & their season finishing reasonably soon, So in theory what’s stops us using their staff?

If they have example 14 servers, They soon will only need 12 then 10 as it winds down, So these people could be drip fed into our catering/hospitality existing or new staff team, Again all theory but doable, Plus if we are struggling for staff then up the wage & benefits as surely they pay for themselves many times over, So a little less profit but smoother service & happy punters.

True enough, have been amazed on my travels to see how many hotels and pubs have ‘Staff Wanted’ signs outside. Guess all those Polish workers went home on the first lockdown and are staying put.

Im sure some will come over to Holker street. Events planned at Craven Park finish towards the end of August none clash with Barrow AFC home games.

a) To provide a match day meeting place where supporters of all ages could meet pre-match and at the interval, get a drink and a burger, watch a lunchtime TV game on the big screens and talk all things Barrow AFC?

b) To provide a venue for the general public on the lines of a beer garden where big TV games can be shown, concerts and events put on to provide a steady revenue stream for Barrow AFC and for it also to be used on matchdays unless otherwise pre-booked?

Maybe the answer is a) in which case all is as it should be. Maybe the unwritten ethos of the club’s owners is for a family-based facility exclusively for supporters and not for opening up to the great and good of the town in what may be alcohol-fuelled raucous and boisterous situations which may impact detrimentally on the facility itself.

I understand your point WG but surely to be as sustainable as possible you have to diverse as much as possible?

If you rely on on Match Day revenue then IMHO your boxing yourself into a very tight corner.

Yes the Fanzone was built primarily as an extra watering hole for fans & to reduce the crush for service at critical times in the cross bar where everyone wants serving at the same time & to stop disgruntled fans leaving at HT to sup in the Soccer Bar as they refuse to line up on the stairs etc..This doesn’t mean you can’t adapt in the future surely.

If it were me I’d explore all options then try several events aimed at different sections of society & see what’s popular & focus on them.

I would 100% invest in a big score board that doubles as a big screen & place it on a swivel the roof of the crossbar so it’s used on match days then turned to face Walney Rd on non match days for advertising & turned to face the fan zone during events, It wouldn’t be cheap but surely pay for itself many times over during its life.

You could put classic movies on, concerts, even bloody outdoor bingo during the summer, UFC/Boxing, Amateur Dramatics Formula 1, Appeal to various local clubs ask what they want & how they want it, Unlimited possibilities aimed at those who would not attend the facilities usually, Diversity.

If using our pitch is a huge no no in the future ( it’s a no atm but could change once everything is completed with it ) then hire the training pitch out for bigger events, They would welcome the extra money & we would make lots of it while being a proper community club inclusive to all & win friends & influence people & no doubt increase attendances as some would come along to the odd match as they get used to visiting the ground for their chosen activities so think yes I’ll go to that game on Saturday.

Is the training pitch ours or rented? Being east of Manchester now, apparently (I haven't seen an announcement about this) it seems likely that there is nobody based there permanently to manage it.

Imagine the Fanzone open to the public for the Euro final and England getting beat on a dodgy decision. The Fanzone could be matchwood within an hour.

Absolute nonsense when was the last time a pub got wrecked in Barrow after an England defeat ?

Assuming 'Wintergreens' last paragraph is serious and not in jest, that's a very sad and disturbing state of affairs of his view on Bluebird fans and/or the Barrow public, to even think the place would be vandalized, based on the result. Heaven forbid there will be no Spanish or Italian fans to fight with (assuming England are in the Final). When the Raiders played Workington last week (1st & 2nd in the league) a hotly-contested game, our Cumbrian rivals had 500 singing, chanting , good-natured supporters (mainly young men drinking lots of beer) standing shoulder-to-shoulder with 1500 Barrow supporters on the popular side (no segregation) which included lots of women and children. There was NEVER a hint of any antagonism, intimidation and there was certainly no fighting between opposing supporters. There never is, with any other visiting rugby team supporters, regardless of the result. Assuming some of the same Barrow 'public' attend both Holker St and Craven Park (like myself) why do football and rugby fans act so differently? And they have done for decades now.

so it won’t open if say we are pushing for a play off place last game of the season ! The scenario you have fabricated can’t be a reason for it not opening.
