They looked a useful partnership and we scored 3 goals, one of which scored by Smith before being substituted.
We have never started a game with that pairing since.
That baffles me why not.
Agree one hundred percent. Very difficult to understand Whing's thinking.
I was surprised that Pressley didn't start against Carlisle, unless he is carrying an injury.

Although Pressley's goalscoring stats are poor (as we keep being reminded), his overall contribution is much greater than Acquah's. He works very hard and, as shown at Crewe, can get on the end of crosses. He was really unlucky not to score with that header at Crewe, which brought a good save from their keeper. Smith looks like someone who will be in the right place at the right time, so giving these two a run of a few games together could bring goals.

The acquah experiment needs to end now, the blokes an absolute [SwearFilter] in a big man’s body, he’s pony snd needs sending back to non league. Pressley offers more in terms of hold up but isn’t going to score so have to go as a two either with smith or Whitfield just off him. Would be such a barrow thing to do by beating notts county on Tuesday now.

That’s how the games was. The last 20 mins aside we didn’t play badly we just failed to put our chances away. At least we created chances. Carlisle had one and put it away. The penalty shout was a good shout for a pen. Pity not many of the doom and gloom merchants have mentioned that. Like you say put our chances away we win comfortably
I think the standard of performances for the most part of this season can lead people to think that was a good performance but it wasn't.
It was very hit and hope at times, we seemed to be hoping to score again rather than looking like we had a plan and believed that we could score. At 0-1 you knew we wouldn't score and that shows in the players and their lack of confidence. Last 20 minutes they should've been throwing everything at them and we weren't, could be playing now and still not have scored.

Putting away chances sounds simple but unfortunately it's something that we've struggled with all season and with the current strike force, it's not something that's going to miraculously change.

It should've been a penalty, should've been a red card to the Carlisle striker but how many times have we complained about referees and bad luck? It wears thin. You earn your luck and we haven't done enough to win games far too many times this season. There's an inevitability once we go behind with the odd exception like the MK Dons game, where you can say we did get a bit of luck but also worked very hard. Those games have been few and far between.

The first half was easily the best we’ve played against Carlisle in the league since we got promoted……but that’s not really saying too much

Ok my little chums, I was there last night and have to say considering it wasn't a big crowd the atmosphere from both sets of fans was superb.
I have to say I disagree with some of your fans saying that The Barrow players were half hearted and disinterested, I thought they were snapping into tackles and were closing down well, to me they had obviously been given a 'rocket' from your last game. However the finishing and general lack of play around our penalty area is a concern....but disinterested...no, lack of quality...yes! More or less exactly the same as us.
That pitch does not suit everybody and both teams found it very difficult to play any sort of passing game on it.
As far as the 'non penalty' is concerned in the dying minutes then to me it was no where near a penalty, the ball MAY have stuck Thomas's hand, but there was absolutely no way he could have got out of the way of it.
A draw may have been a fair result, possibly? but you have to put the ball in the back of the net, and Barrow didn't.
Hopefully we CAN stay up (but it's still going to be bloody tough) and we can continue our little battles again for at least another season (hopefully in League 2).
Toodle pip!!!

I'm just so tired of how bad we are in localish big games
I think they copped for all those shite moments at the end
Add been a slow, grindingly frustrating descent for months and months where they've been given a pass for effort.most of the time
Most of us are totally fed up

Just get to the end in the division, Whing and Co can bring their own players and start fresh while I sit up the cricket and forget all about it for a while.

In the 2nd half Farman touched the ball about 3 times including punching away a cross, Carlisle goalie had more to do but never really tested, watching the Carlisle Players & Manager at full time that isn`t a Squad going down, not a great watch but we are told every week it`s a results business and last night Carlisle did the business. Sam Foley said in his after match interview that the elbow he received was part of the game and only a scratch and you just have to get on with it.

I did say I couldn’t be bothered looking up results….and I guess one bright spot in amongst a load of dross doesn’t do much to focus the mind.
Another couple of bright spots like that and we're in the league next season, but my point was really how long ago it now seems.
Yes, sorry…I misunderstood your point. The last three or four months just seem to be a bundle of poor quality, terrible games, missed chances, lots of losses with the occasional bright spot chucked in, then when you think we’ve turned a corner…..they throw in a Crewe performance and we’re back to reality.

Probably like everyone else, yesterday morning didn’t feel any better than the night before.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Thursday night hurt big time and I really am not prepared to open up raw wounds by discussing anything about the match. What I will say – after reading this thread – is that I feel for the likes of Spirit of 1990 and Barrow Aberdeen. Their posts on here are tough to read because we know that the likes of these two fellas have done amazing things for our club, and to read about their torment just adds to the pain. I mean, when a Scot like Barrow Aberdeen says he can't wait for the season to end so he can get away from it all and watch some cricket sums it all up in a nutshell - - - a Scot wants to get away from it all and watch some cricket? No more need be said!

Yes hurt is probably the right word.

And the time from many is a clear sign that pretty much everyone is fed up.
To go from challenging two seasons on the bounce to being top of the league and playing chelski in the cup to where we are now is disappointing, upsetting and difficult to take. I know the other night was just another game but had we turned up, kicked their backsides a bit and got 3 pts, it would at least have given us all something to be happy about.

Clear head now…. We started the game exactly how we all wanted to see it. On the front foot and taking the game to Carlisle.…. But as has been all too familiar, we couldn’t put our chances away. And that highlights the bigger issue, I’m watching the game not overly concerned about what Carlisle could do to us, but getting increasingly concerned about whether we could score ourselves as we missed chances. And now I realise I’m thinking like this every game, its not what the opposition can do, it’s what we can’t do to them!! For the second successive season we don’t have any player in the top 40 ranking goal scorers in the entire league. Acquah on 5. It’s why we are where we are. If we don’t recruit a goal scorer in summer we are will struggle again next season, even if the rest of the squad is solid. No question.
