What a day, really didn't want to take that journey in but simply had to when the title was resting on it. Not one delay on the trip down which also helped. Pulling up at their ground at half one a very helpful steward informed us of two close by pubs that had been taken over by Barrow supporters but the club house was not too full, it wasn't but a few more bar staff wouldn't have gone amiss, only a minor complaint though for a club who were very friendly. We got speaking to a couple of their fans during the game and they said what a great set of supporters we had, creating the best atmosphere of their season.
Great start to the game with the two goals before half time to settle our nerves, then Jase's pen.....nothing could go wrong now! so I went to get the drinks in (which we were allowed to drink in the ground) came out and someone walked past me and said "they've just got another one" ANOTHER???? I didn't even know they'd got one never mind another!!!
Nervy ending to a game that we looked to have wrapped but were fully in control of for the majority of the 90 minutes, scenes at the end were brilliant, great atmosphere back in their clubhouse, fantastic atmosphere back on the coach, singing, shouting, champagne and the realisation that on the last day of the season we'd clinched the title......so glad I made the trip.

Today, I'm aching all over from spending that long on a coach, my head hurts, my eyes fell like they've been poked with sticks and my [SwearFilter] stinks of alcohol and coffee.....I didn't think that could be medically possible.

Wouldn't have missed it!

A group of us southern-based exiles, supporters from Barrow travelling via London, and Ryan on a flying visit from Qatar (that's real dedication for you!) assembled at Liverpool Street station for breakfast before boarding the train to Lowestoft via Ipswich. It had started off as half a dozen or so of the regular exiles, but with the title being at stake, the numbers kept growing and we numbered 30-40 or so by the time to board the 10.00 train arrived.

Lowestoft was eventually reached and the pub (or pubs!) beckoned - the local Green Jack ales were very drinkable, although the Ripper that weighed in at 8.5% ABV was best consumed in moderation - before heading up to the ground to soak up the pre-match atmosphere. And a chat with Holker Street legend Colin Cowperthwaite.

As for the game itself, Barrow were coasting at 3-0 up, and the fluctuating score from Fylde's match against Gloucester was starting to lose any relevance; the trophy was as good as in Simon Grand's hands. But Barrow don't do easy, and two goals for the hosts meant a nerve-wracking final few minutes for the hordes from the north, before Barrovian Bedlam greeted the final whistle.

Onto the pitch to join in the celebrations and witness the presentation at close quarters before heading back to the railway station (we had a few minutes to kill in the pub before joining the 18.07 train!) If passengers on the two coach service to Ipswich had not heard of Barrow AFC beforehand, they certainly had by the time they reached their destination! No doubt a variety of Green Jack beers purchased by Neil, a London based Plymouth supporter who we are converting to the cause, helped to lubricate the vocal chords.

So back into London just before nine, and time to say farewell to many of the group before heading off to Brick Lane for a celebratory curry.

It's days like this that make the rollercoaster ride of being a Barrow supporter worthwhile.
