Agreed. Any average goalkeeper would have saved those poor efforts. Easy chances but inept finishing.Ste Story wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:41 amWas suprised at the rave reviews he got personally. The saves he made were very routine and stuff you'd expect any keeper to make, i can't remember him having to stretch more than a couple of inches to any shot. The Jordan White rebound was criminal finishing with so much of the goal to aim at, Yussuf really should have done better when through, rather than tamely hit it right at him again... Poor finishing rather than good goalkeeping IMO.

Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
The problem is, Mike, that we really don't know! Did Paul Cox sign the players or did Paul Ogden recommend them? If they were signed was it because they were the best options or was it because the players wanted would cost more than the budget? Was that because the budget was smaller than last season and therefore we could only sign lower quality players? It's all ifs and buts and we all have our own theories but without knowing the facts. However, the facts are certainly that the majority of the players signed are inferior to the ones they have replaces.MikeRenney wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:45 am Very poor performance glad I did not have to pay to watch it. As I said to my wife "you think I enjoy myself going to Holker Street".
We do not bully teams as we did last season in fact it was the reverse for the first half last Saturday. Most of the time we seem almost relaxed with not much in the way of a pressing game.
I presume Paul Cox signed most of the players and at the moment several are found to be wanting. The other thing is perhaps the Hartlepool scenario was not quite what it seems.
Paul Casson has to now select a new manager to take us forward, this as ever is a very difficult thing to do. He chose Paul Cox and we have had a couple of good seasons and I think most people have enjoyed it, possibly not a former member of this forum and Pedro. We can only hope whoever comes in puts us back on track and proves to be as inspired a signing as Paul Cox was. As we know there are no guarantees, all clubs have struggled plenty of times in their history to pick the right man. Here's hoping.

Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
Couldn't make the game and its disappointing to see 14 pages and counting of how poor we were against an apparently average Fylde team.
The events of the last month are causing a big wobble and we need a manager who can get us back on track, which won't be easy with some of this squad.
Tough games the next two weeks and we need to see an improvement or else it will be another dogfight in the basement area.

Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
With whats happened at our club over the last week its got to have an impact on the players hence the last two perfomances get someone in quick to steady the ship team just needs a few tweaks
Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
Exactly - barely troubled, as any shots we did have were straight at him. I suppose if their keeper did anything particularly well, he came and collected every single set-piece we put in the box. There were at least four corners that were easily gathered up with no pressure put on the keeper.Ste Story wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:41 amWas suprised at the rave reviews he got personally. Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
Bit harsh on their keeper, watched a bit of it when I got back and he did well when called upon especially with the White (non) effort and the goalmouth scramble in the 2nd-half I thought. Had to re-watch that to see how Yussi missed. He was certainly up there for motm but would've give it Hardy myself. Stood out in a sea of mediocrity. Was a nice ground though, bar was a no-expense spared venue, how many tv's(?) and those floodlights were superb. Convenient to get to as well. Why aren't we playing them over Christmas/New year I wonder?
Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
We need a manager in and fast!!! Personally we have a good squad IMO we just need a new manager to come in boost the lads moral and get us winning games, i dont see Moore being the man for the job,i think he baffled everyone with his 1st sub!! ARH and Diarra have been stand out players so far for me this season!!

Grant Holt has been taking his EUFA Coaching badges on a course based in Northern Ireland also on that course and at the same level as him is Peter Murphy who was recently appointed the manager at Annan Athletic so i would imagine that would mean that Holt badges wise would also be in a position to accept a managers job.

Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
That's not a fact, it's an opinion. At this stage last season we didn't know Bennett, Anderton and Williams would go on to be sold for £0.250m. A good manager might develop some of this squad in exactly the same way.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 10:38 amThe problem is, Mike, that we really don't know! Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
This time last season the neigh sayers would have hounded out Moussa as he was "Bambi on Ice" & "Useless" etc Once he adjusted 10ish games in he has probably been our most improved & valuable member of the squad.
We started the season with 3 long term injuries still out, 9 players making their debuts, 2 new signings injured, 1 long term etc Dunne got himself a 3 game ban Then Cox acted up & dumped us into this managerless small crisis, It was bound to stall our progress.
Harrison is now rusty but back & hopefully will return as good as he left once he is match fit, Yussuf missed a couple of games but is now back, Dunne will return next match, Fitzpatrick hopefully is well on the road to recovery in a few weeks.
This very new to each other squad will begin to settle in to whatever game plans & each others style, strengths & weaknesses.
We will surely improve on recent form.

Surely there was more than 346 away fans last night?

I was with a group, one of which bought a ticket directly after me and they had to alter that because he'd been given something completely different to where he was supposed to be.
I too thought there were well over 346 there....two instances there what probably back that up.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: FYLDE V BARROW match thread
Just watched back the game and didn't think Makoma was as bad as was being banded about last night. He was on his first run out and he created that first chance that Yussuf wasted.
Going forward I'd like to see us go back to 5 -3- 2 until we have a couple of fit wingers. At the minute we are sending the ball into the channels without anyone to run onto it. At least releasing the wingbacks to go forward would be a a start.
Start Yussuf and Harry....
