They wont get refunds on their train tickets as the reason for the delay was not their fault. You only get refunds if its the railways fault ie signal failure or driver didnt turn up or similar

I got a refund when a tree had fallen and blocked the track.

Unlike the airlines, the delay doesn't need to have been caused by the train operating company or by the railway industry generally. Providing the delay meets the relevant time criteria (30-59 mins, 60-119 mins, etc), then compensation is payable. As with Holkerbird's tree delay repayment (although if the tree was on Network Rail land it could be the industry's fault anyway).

Not always the case my last trip a few month ago was terminated at Piccadilly because of water on the tracks.
No trains could get through Northern said use tram which meant I was 90 min delayed they refunded me the price of the ticket from Picaddily to Airport £1.90
The fact that Dover turned around means they are not late getting to their destination which could also mean no compensation..
If they are open tickets more expensive but.it allows you to get a later train and no compensation as you do not have a designated time for arrival
Northern have been refusing compensation to frustrate claims in the hope people will give up

I think it's a good idea but from what I remember in the past Lancashire Cup takes precedent.
Plus I think Dover would have to agree.
Maybe a idea to play both games,mostly reserves for Lancashire Cup

Can anyone explain why the train would be terminated at Preston (or Crewe depending on who you listen to) when the fatality happened at Milton Keynes? If it had passed the incident why couldn't it continue its journey?

Am guessing that if it was actually terminated, it was conceivably connected to rolling stock and/or staffing logistics.

Quite possibly because, as the train was running well over two hours late, the driver would be out of hours and not legally permitted to continue the journey.

Real Time Trains shows that the train was further delayed at Crewe by around 40 mins, during which time the Dover squad presumably decided to call it a day, before continuing to Preston where it terminated (it should have run through to Glasgow).

This is a classic example of how to spin a story. Abuse is far more of a topical issue than any of the problems we might have suffered. As soon as the comments were made in whatever context, any Dover apologists were given all the ammunition they needed to turn the tables on the story.

When will we learn that whenever comments are expressed outside of this environment they will be picked up and twisted in whatever way suits. Perception is everything. Truth means very little.

Whilst on this subject I for one would be seriously considering making this forum a closed environment accessible by password only. I realise that the forum had nothing to do with the comments in this case and is to some extent policed anyway. However the very fact that outsiders can view this thread means that they can copy, paste and/or re-tweet any thing that they see. I'm not sure that this is desirable in circumstances where supporters give vent to their opinions as they are entitled to do within the forum whether or not the views are considered to be valid. So long as they are not defamatory obviously.

How's this for a bit of reverse conspiracy.

We will still be in an international qualifying window in November (both in Europe and beyond). By resetting the Dover game for a month backwards it is quite possible that those of their players that were unavailable for Saturdays fixture (Ricky Modeste etc.) and subject to these players being called up by their respective federations they may still be missing when Dover's train finally pulls in. Even if they were back they'd have just got off a plane.

So perhaps fate may yet intervene to redress the advantage that Dover seem to have achieved for themselves.
