I've spoken with Mike Forsyth about this (well, we're on a roll aren't we?) and he's going to have a think about if it's still necessary. Of course, if it can come down we'll be looking for a bit of help shifting it.......barrow-mike......
Another common sense decision.

I had a word with Mike before the game last night and he's totally happy for us to take the mesh/fence off the top half while leaving a staggered breeze block lower half & the gate and attached column in place. That will improve the views from around that area massively.

We'll be having a last visit before the season gets under way this Sunday morning, if anyone would like to help in removing the fence & a row or two of breeze blocks then here's your chance. I doubt very much there'd be enough people there under normal circumstances to put a couple on this as there is so much else to do before the season starts the following Saturday.

I think they will complete the home end before the start of the season and then the other end I would assume next close season as they won't have a gap between games long enough to do both. Might be wrong but I can't see how they would do it otherwise.

Ian perhaps there's some on here who can do it during the week. Worth a try. I am going to try and get down this week to complete the first aid dugout if I can get access to the masonry paint. I am trying to paint Sean's treatment room but it is difficult with Les and his washing regime. Don't want to get in his way.

Of course, if anyone wanted to go down during the week so long as they drop me a pm/e-mail or text and I can tell them what is needed or where they can find anything they need to complete or start certain jobs that's fine. I would then have to let the club know people will be doing certain things at certain times.
Even if anyone didn't really want to get involved with the heavier or bigger jobs there is ALWAYS the job of litter picking or general ground tidying in need of doing.
And it does happen to a degree as well Elaine, Mrssenorita and IRVJ have been down several times during the evenings trying to get jobs finished, I even grabbed hold of Gareth late Monday afternoon to help put some fixings in place on the segregation fence.....loads goes on on a daily basis but we pretty much only post about the Sundays sessions as that's the main one.
Be nice to get a few down this coming Sunday just to give one final push for the following week. Emma has told me the club will be putting on brews and breakfast buns again for anyone wanting to help out as a way of thanks.

Al, I think the plan is to have the first section complete by the start of the season and the other bits as & when, I think as Elaine says, the final section might be left till the end of this season as that is the least weather damaged. Of course plans could change because as they work along the stand they're finding some areas are more damaged than others.
I'll try and find out exactly what the plans are ASAP.

Just a reminder for those interested. There'll be another visit to the ground this coming Sunday morning (final big session before the season starts) if you feel like you could help out with any jobs (barrow_mike and your fence) just pop down from 9:00am.

Fence to remove.
Painting.
General tidy up.
Fixing the cellar doors.
Putting new hasps & padlocks on doors.
Weeding the terraces.
Final touches to the new segregation fence.
New boards to go up.
Reception car park boards to come down.

Emma will be there taking orders for breakfast buns & brews as way of a thank you from the club.

Would there be someone around who could open up the shop and take some money? I'm in town on Sunday morning and I'd like to buy a shirt if possible. Not sure on times so I don't want to put anyone out if they aren't going to be there anyway.

Thanks

Another really good turnout this morning, plenty of jobs ticked off a list that doesn't seem to be getting any smaller....

IRVJ, Pete Nichols, Gareth and William took down all them old signs from the reception car park and replaced them with the new Hornby signs. There will be another advertising the X Bar going up shortly.
IRVJ & Pete then moved onto putting some new ones up around the perimeter wall along with repositioning a few others. Them jobs alone probably saved the club a couple of hundred quid going by the prices quoted for doing exactly what we did today.

Gareth and William then moved onto pitch matters with a lot of crawling on hands and knees going on on the pitch....not sure what that was about but the pitch looks very good so whatever they were doing seems to work.

Exile painted the new segregation gates yellow along with the pitch side exit gates around the ground...and slapped a coat or two on his lips, not sure how that happens but as with Gareth's pitch, Exiles gates looked good so whatever keeps him happy I suppose.

Myself and big Al took down Barrow_Mike's fencing on the popular side. Far, far bigger job than we originally thought it would be - it certainly wasn't one of those thrown together jobs that have been done in the ground in the past and was more than likely put up by Sterling Fabrications when they did all them crush barriers on that side. We still have some of the block work to remove but after skipping all the metalwork we ran out of time so hopefully we'll get that done in the coming months.
In the meantime Barrow_Mike, enjoy your new uninterrupted view.

Jonty weeded all of the West terrace with some fancy looking weeder/scraper/brush type thing.....if he invented that he needs it patenting.
He then came around to the demolished fence for a chat when some greenery caught his attention growing off the wall, that was dispatched without a second thought.

Elaine carried on painting her first aiders dugout, just another area that looks a lot better than it did two weeks ago. Strange how she never gets paint on herself, much more professional than Exile!

Whitty 1969 removed about seven broken ceiling lights from above the X Bar and shot off to screwfix for some new units, another area that just looks better for a bit of time being spent on it. While doing that job he heard one of the bar fridges making some strange, un-fridge like noises, turns out it was in a bit of a dangerous state so that has been disconnected & removed.

Thanks to Emma and her two girls (I hope I've got these names right) Lilly and Grace for supplying the tea's & coffee's all morning and then nipping out to get the burgers and chips in.

Another really enjoyable morning down there and no-one died, lost any limbs or got anything dropped on them as mrssenorita was 300 miles away on holiday :D
BTW, even he isn't safe from himself because while down there during the week he electrocuted himself while welding

Well done to everyone concerned. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of all the hard work against Aldershot next Saturday.

Ave you got any pictures of the work you guys have been doing? Particularly the wall. Under the main stand?

My first game of the season is not likely to be until Mid October but even that is not guaranteed

I'm really interested in what goes on behind the scenes
