Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town, match thread
Farman made two outstanding saves at the death of the Tranmere game. People forget the goalkeeper is the last line of defence and often its mistakes made initially by others that lead to the goal but others rarely get any blame. See Stokes at Tranmere. On Saturday Jackson loses the ball to give the corner away ; he should have dealt with it; a deep ball way behind the far post and way beyond goalkeeper’s reach is headed back into the centre , Canavan and Acqua collide , fail to clear when one of them should do so , it’s hooked to the back post and Muldon unchallenged puts it in. Second goal Mahoney loses it carelessly & Neo plays March onside and instead of taking one for the team lets him run on to score.
Be careful what you wish for. Farman may not be perfect but he’s been an absolute hero for this club and he’s still one of the best at this level.

Nige, under the current situation and poor form, bringing up Mark hHerringtons situation probably isn't the right time. Last thing we need right now are conspiracy theories and mistrust that could fuel even more discontent.blue nige wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:24 amMark left for a reason just wish I could inform everyone why then you might have a different view instead of blue tinted ones!barrowfan_chris wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 8:28 am
Played the game to a decent level and then you suggest Goodwin![]()
Hetherington sold his shares we need people with serious money not more people that as Charles puts it are enthusiastic amateurs.
Right now, as a group of "supporters" of Barrow, our beloved club, we should be perhaps coming together and getting right behind the team!
I know I don't want non league football at HS ever again and I think everyone else would have the same opinion.
We must do what we can to help the team avoid relegation and we do that by sticking together.
HS has to get back that nasty unwelcome atmosphere, we have to be vocal, loud and proud!
It's been disappointing no question but we can avoid the unthinkable so let's focus on the football, the team and do our bit.

I didn't do it to wind people up etc. It's because I really worry about the way decisions are effecting our club and where we are heading!olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:33 amNige, under the current situation and poor form, bringing up Mark hHerringtons situation probably isn't the right time. Absolute pathetic Nige. If your so concerned put yourself forward on the trust board, speak to our chairman or owner personally, don’t some on here spouting garbage Far more positive decisions have been made by the board, they do what they think is correct at the time.blue nige wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:38 amI didn't do it to wind people up etc. It's because I really worry about the way decisions are effecting our club and where we are heading!olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:33 am

It’s not that long ago that we were saying that we were lucky to have him. Since he’s back from injury he doesn’t seem so confident but neither do most of the team, whether or not they’ve had injury.
There is a problem in the dressing room and it could be with Clemence, whose lack of meaningful tactics and weird substitutions is spreading to everyone.
The Board has decided to stick with him and that’s understandable from the financial point of view. They probably think that we are relatively safe, but if you take a look at the chasing pack, we could easily drop into the danger zone if matters are not addressed soon.

There's a lot of sides to every story and a lot of differing opinions fly around locally . There's plenty on here could put their two penneth and we wouldn't all agree that's for sure.blue nige wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:24 amMark left for a reason just wish I could inform everyone why then you might have a different view instead of blue tinted ones!barrowfan_chris wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 8:28 am

As for John Goodwin think you're being a bit ingenious, I didn't EVER notice you criticising him when he was co commentating with Adam, let's then put it another way Clemence played at a high level and has NO tactical nouse that's just not my view but most people I talk to we all can't be wrong!
I want Barrow to survive but my concerns are valid but without people like John/ Mark I feel that the footballing conversations on the board are only one person's view which if right is a recipe for disaster!
Personally, I don't feel going down the route of ex Holker Old Boys players is the way to go in League 2.
But how many boards, directors of football, pundits, ex-players etc get managerial appointments right? Everything is a calculated gamble based on the information to hand and situation.
We are looking for areas to blame- totally understandable given the run of form. But while that happens we need to get behind the team at games etc- but they have to play a part too. Whoever does or doesn't end up here, we will be.

Steve, all I was pointing out is that Wood is ( apparently) making all the footballing decisions, this is a lot for just one person and by having other views ( doesn't have to be the person(s) I mentioned it would make things a lot easier surely?barrowaberdeen wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:27 amThere's a lot of sides to every story and a lot of differing opinions fly around locally . Personally, at this level we should have a manager who runs the show, what he says goes.
Have scouts etc but too many cooks spoil the broth especially at this level.

I agree with this, and it would likely have meant we still had Pete Wild. Yes, we had a collapse, but the feel-good factor hadn't been as high since Evett.olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:49 am Personally, at this level we should have a manager who runs the show, what he says goes.

Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town, match thread
Surely when Ian Wood says he has a player with prospects he has to run that player past Stephen Clemence to ask his view and I would like to think he has the final say.If not there is something drastically wrong with the way the club is being run.olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:49 am Personally, at this level we should have a manager who runs the show, what he says goes.

The board will also have set financial constraints that we have to work within.
I would also like to think that when Stephen Clemence has a player in mind he views to be a good addition to the team his proposition is given due consideration.
What people have to realise is that our club is not awash with money and we have to live within our means.
Like Barrow Aberdeen has already said we have to stick together as a team players and supporters. It could be that agents have been approaching some of our better players with offers and they are frightened of getting injured in case it scuppers a proposed offer.
There is something definitely not right between Steven Clemence be it tactics or otherwise.Hopefully Paul Hornby will get to the bottom of what is really going on as he did when we had Jolley as a manager.
I hope we do not have to change managers again but if that,s what needs to happen,it,s better sooner than later.

Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town, match thread
Unfortunately, there are very few people from Barrow who have 'serious money' and even fewer who would lose much of it by buying a football club. I happen to play bowls with the owner of Havant & Waterlooville whose highest ever league level was National League although they are now 2 levels lower and he told me that he has spend literally millions at a club even at that level.barrowfan_chris wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 8:28 amblue nige wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 10:27 am On the board we need someone who's played the game to a decent level who at least can have some involvement in footballing decisions, we had Mark Hetherington but he left for reasons ( which I know but can't for obvious reasons share on here) John Goodwin would be a good choice infact I'd love both Mark and Goody join because I think our present board are giving too much power to Wood which is dangerous because if it's solely down to him and he gets it wrong!!!!!!

Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town, match thread
Two good posts above IMO from Barrow Aberdeen and Methuselah. Regarding two of the main areas of allegation/conjecture - Wood's role and influence and players' confidence in Clemence - I would assume that Paul Hornby wil know the situation and he is the person to sort it out. .
