Barrow - Gateshead match thread

We need a different game plan when the wind is like what it was today. Every season we get a couple games in wind like that.

Aimless throws in the first half to Diarra. The lad needs to get down the gym, didn't win one and bullied by their defenders. The annoying thing is we didn't work out it wasn't working so just kept doing the same over and over. At half time thought the worst so to get out 0-0 was a result.
Main positives were the fullbacks and the terrier like performance of Akil Wright. We are missing Yates/Turnbull calmness though and desperately need to get some quality in there. Might be time to freshen up the front 2 also. Hannah must be gagging to get on. Full warm up at half time and plenty of attitiude to get on but yet again not a sniff.
Finally, we always seems to get a bloody awful ref on boxing day too.

I thought Cox sounded disappointed with recent performances in his post-match. He mentioned "getting back to our DNA". Perhaps he feels levels have slipped a bit? Also mentioned need for 3 or more new signings and confident the other PC will support him.

Personally, I agree with other comments that we are missing Turnbull or another wise head/mature player in midfield.

first half we possibly could have used this to our advantage, anyway they seemed like a good team and obv we missed Yates and Williams imo

Not the best of games but no team anywhere would've played "good football" in them conditions. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and admit the weather won.
It was definitely a game for grafters and Beeley, Livesey & Meikle (who did very well and deserved his MOTM) all showed they are just that, surprisingly Byron added another string to his bow and also showed he can mix it when the conditions are as bad as they were today - he really is the complete forward at this level. ARH also battled well in midfield, but there's a big hole in there now without Yates....hopefully Paul Turnbull can step up and fill that role.
Decent gate considering the howling wind and very (very) cold conditions. Good results elsewhere in the top half dozen for us...& our run continues.

The trick is to keep the ball on the deck. As i said, results went for us today but hope all these draws don't come back to haunt us later in the season

Spot on.

Not good conditions today but in several recent matches all we seem to be able to do is the long ball high into the air or the long boot along the ground out to the wings 'hoping' that someone will run on to it.

At least 6 points dropped at home in 3 games this season. If both teams play like they did today in the return fixture our unbeaten record will be dead and buried.

Coxy should have utilised Hannah for the last 30 mins at least - he would have scared the s**t out of them with his pace, don't know what he's got to do to get more game time. Looked like Coxy had settled for a point after an hour to me.
Like another poster mentioned - hope all these draws don't come back and bite us.
