Re: Worst player ever to play for Barrow ...
a full back in the 80's or 90's called Eric Snookes was pretty dire - and agreed about Colin Methven
Lancashire;- born and bred
Re: Worst player ever to play for Barrow ...
Was Darren Heesom shit or is it just the fact I remember a greasy perm and tache that makes me remember him so?
Re: Worst player ever to play for Barrow ...
Mike Brown , I'm sure that's what he was called, played for Wilkie post 90.
What was that Dutch lad called who came with a bit of hype but was shit

Re: Worst player ever to play for Barrow ...
Many of the names mentioned, the likes of Ken McKenna, Andy Mutch, Eric Snookes, Colin Methven etc, all came to the club having had good careers elsewhere. I would certainly agree that they were terrible in a Barrow shirt, but I would argue that they weren't simply "bad players". Kevin Reeves (one of the first million pound footballers) Mick Horswill (FA Cup winner with Sunderland) and player-manager David Johnson (one of the select group of players to have played for both Merseyside clubs) all failed miserably for Barrow, and were as bad as any I have seen, despite only playing a handful of games between them.
Loan players are interesting - some of the best and worst players at Holker Street have been loanees. Danny L. Rowe was a disgrace in his short spell here, but scored goals for fun at Kirkham & Wesham, and clearly isn't a bad player. A tosser maybe, but not a bad player.

Kevin Rapley. Had his own website, but couldn't kick our back door shut.

I'd managed to forget about him - Bayliss saying he was better than Boyes (may have made this up, but I think he also said he would be better than Grant Holt...)
Reminded me that we also had Robbie Williams and Adam Quinn, who were utterly terrible yet lauded as "best in the league" by Bayles.

He played a fair bit for Blackpool in the league too. For us, he was shit.
Darren Heesom, Stuart Mellish, Simon Burton, Mike Brown, Phil Rowlands, Neil Kelly, Darren Oldroyd.... I could go on.

Charlie Butler. Prolific goalscorer in the north-east. We pursued him for ages, I think when Sir Ray was manager, and when we finally signed him he stunk the place out. Scurried off back to NE football. One of Wilkie's few poor signings.
