IIRC when Forest Green went up Dale Vince said it had cost him £10 million over the years to finally get promotion
It won't be any easier in the Football League. There are a lot of teams up there in severe financial difficulties. More money will come in but players will be asking for more money without a doubt.

Do the authorities look at our books to see if promotion to the EFL is sustainable? Do we need a certain amount of 'liquid' money (not assets) before we can be promoted?

I'll see what I can do about some sort of breakdown, however the directors certainly don't view an annual loss of £850k as being sustainable. When they came in they had a number of challenges including historic debt and major compliance issues with the ground which had to be addressed.
It's overwhelmingly likely that for as long as we remain in this division we're going to operate at a loss, and it's not likely to be a small one either. That's the reality of National League life for a club like ours sadly. But major redevelopment work funded entirely by the club (i.e. without grants) should reduce now, as should payment on debts.
This idea that operating in this division incurs a loss is madness, acceptance and belief in this as the norm’ is what gets clubs in trouble. Why why why do we believe this?
Let’s face it, if the directors think they’re ever getting any money back from what they have ‘invested’ then they’re foolish.
I’ll still put money in to this initiative though
Correct. Nobody running a football club makes money and I think the £850,000 loss shows exactly why Paul Casson had to leave. I would be amazed if his annual losses were not much higher as I'm sure his wage bill would have been much higher, his sponsorship much less and his ability to run a football club looked much lower than the current board.

Baring in mind that Macclesfield won the league and went up with about 50p in the bank then no there isn’t a certain amount of money you need

I take it you don't understand simple sentences and simple questions.
My questions have already been answered by someone who does, and if you'd bothered to read the thread properly you would know that.
Have a nice Christmas!

£4855 at the moment Allan.
A tremendous start given the time of year etc, so thanks to everyone who has been involved.
For those asking, there will be a totaliser soon, when Ste gets chance to create it. In the mean time we will post updates as and when we can.
