Re: Barrow v Grimsby match thread
Just seen a post on the Fishy Forum - 462 Grimsby fans? Good effort.
Re: Barrow v Grimsby match thread
We got 3068 against Harrogate in August, and that was on a Saturday, albeit they did bring less travelling fans. Imo anyone who boycotts isn’t a fan.Bakewell Blue wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 10:04 pmI think I heard Adam say something like 3,300, with around 420-430 away fans. Apparently it is our lowest home support for a league match this season. I hope it isn’t a downward trend, but it will be lower because of the repercussions following the firework incident. I hope we can move on from that, with fans who are able to attend supporting their team rather than boycotting it.

4 home games on the bounce.
Some people might pick their games.
Great first half tonight. Should of been 3 up at HT.
You just knew we would get the first yellow of the match after they spent all game kicking us.
Ref.....Tozer? Was shocking yet again
Great win. Played well

Great result. Please put an end to Josh Kay's career as the Barrow penalty taker.
Re: Barrow v Grimsby match thread
Great win and never gave them a sniff. Should have been out of sight at HT but full credit for keeping going and getting a very deserved win when it could have gone the other way after the break. Well taken goal for Waters in an all round man of the match performance. His first half effort was a fine block by their keeper. Credit to Kay for keeping on top of his game after missing his pen.

I thought there would only be a goal in it. Convinced myself Grimsby would get it! Slap my hand have more faith Andy.
Seriously though such an important win against a good side Delighted for Waters hope Moyo can get on score sheet now feel he's getting better.

What about the young lads and lasses who can't attend due to age are they not proper fans. I don't believe you are a proper fan.Bombadel wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 10:08 pmWe got 3068 against Harrogate in August, and that was on a Saturday, albeit they did bring less travelling fans. Re: Barrow v Grimsby match thread
A hard-won victory with a fine second half goal after we hit the bar and missed a penalty in the first.
A crowd of 3,301 including 462 visiting fans added to the atmosphere. We edged the game throughout overtaking Carlisle into 8th place.
Ten minutes in, Billy Waters forced a close-range save from Max Crocombe in the Grimsby goal.
In the 24th minute, we won a corner. The kick was taken by Ben Whitfield. Initially cleared, a cross by Whitfield resulted in both bar and post being hit as the ball ping-ponged around the area.
Two minutes later, Moyo headed wide from a Whitfield free kick.
Just after the half hour, a penalty shout for a foul on Patrick Brough was waved away, a yellow for diving being awarded instead.
Two minutes later, Bryn Morris brought a diving save from Paul Farman.
However, we had the lion’s share of the chances and had a golden opportunity when a Whitfield corner was played short to Kay in the area who was tripped by Otis Khan. However, for the second game in succession, Kay missed his 39th minute spot kick, Crocombe saving at the left post.
The score remained 0-0 at half time but only 10 seconds into the second half Taylor brought a close range save from Farman.
Five minutes in, Waterfall was booked for a foul on Whitfield, but his free kick was cleared.
On the hour, a Whitfield corner was headed over the bar by George Ray.
Foley then replaced Neal, and in the 70th minute Gordon came on for Moyo. Richardson replaced Khan for the visitors.
We finally made the breakthrough in the 75th minute. An excellent Brough cross was met by Waters in the area who precisely drilled past Crocombe for 1-0 and Barrow’s man of the match award. Three minutes later, Whitfield crossed dangerously across Grimsby’s goal.
The visitors tried a triple change with Hunt, Simmonds and Pepple coming on for Green, Taylor and Morris in the 79th minute. Kenlock then replaced Whitfield for Barrow.
We saw out the remaining 15 minutes including time added, Hunt being booked for a foul on White in the 93rd minute.
Cue the well-deserved celebrations with team, manager and fans at the end.

All the kids turned up though? About 20 of them raced down the holker end to their usual spot just before kick off. Very relaxed stewarding on the terrace considering what went on last home game but good to see the kids can behave themselves. I’d have thought the best option would have been to place a few more stewards around the kids rather than banning them.

Re: Barrow v Grimsby match thread
Would have been a travesty if we didn’t win that game tonight but for long periods it was starting to feel that way. Great win, and thoroughly deserved. Good to see Waters get a goal as well, hopefully gives him some confidence and he starts getting a few more, he played well again tonight. Moyo linked up a lot better tonight, Whitfield was his usual lively self and as daft as it sounds for a man who only came on for half an hour, Foley must have been close to getting man of the match (Neal who he replaced had his first poor game tonight imho, kept picking out their players with passes)
Fair play to Grimsby, great support that on a Tuesday night. Puts a lot of north west clubs to shame
Oh…..never let Josh Kay take penalties again ffs

Re: Barrow v Grimsby match thread
Not a bad game for my first visit to Holker St in a number of years. Grimsby couldn't have complained if we went in 2-0 up at half time.
What was noticeable was the introduction of Foley and Gordon made a HUGE difference and enabled more of the high press that we started the season with but to be fair to him doesn't really work with Moyo.
Harrison Neal had a bit of a mare really - nearly giving away a goal and a number of misplaced passes.
Was pleased for Waters who I though had a really good game.
Referee was poor and was in danger of losing control at several points.
Onwards to the Crewe game where 3 more points would see us truly back on track.

I thought there may have been a slight shirt clash if I’m honest, there wasn’t a marked difference in pattern if you have your head down and try a peripheral vision pass. But I agree Harrison was a bit off it tonight, luckily Sam Foley is the absolute business and shored up the midfield with fresh energy and bite next to Tom White when he came on, experienced energiser bunny! Our squad depth is impressive.
