The transfer market in January is now notoriously quiet across all leagues. Clubs destined for mid table don't want to run the risk of breaching FFP in the season and will wait for target players contracts to expire the following summer to become free agents. The chances of us making a return in the transfer market are slim unless we land a diamond that turns heads at Championship level or above. Safety net is sell on clauses.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 6:15 pmIn todays football world your highly unlikely to make a few quid selling your most saleable assets in January as those assets will have more than likely refused to go if asked. The players (and agents) know full well that they stand to gain much more financially by running down their contracts and moving on without a fee should they get an acceptable offer.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:44 pm We have a hotch potch of a side atm. Some are legacy Wild players, some are Clemence era, some are Whing era and mainly loanees.
I do understand that Wood is the architect of all the squad signings but nevertheless it doesn’t help Whing when you have to hit the ground running with such a broad spectrum of players.
So Whings mandate is primary to get the club over the line asap. Subject to that objective being met, I think there will be a significant turnover at the end of the season.
I also think that there will be fact that we did not ship players in the Jan window was probably down to a process where the BoD had to choose whether to make a few quid or keep our best players to secure our place, knowing what that might mean. If so it was a good one as both Spence and Vassell have been on the scoresheet recently. But we are due a clear out.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
With some of the budgets announced this week on various social media sites how long before a Division 4 Club go bust or the owners say enough is enough, Barrow AFC budget of £2.6m is bad enough but is madness at other Clubs, yet even at our Club supporters want new players and Ground improvements plus Promotion to league 1, we have to be realistic on our crowds where does all this money come from to please the fan base who soon disappear when results go against us.
Re: Goalkeeper situation.
The challenge all clubs face is that FFP rules state that only 55% of income generated can be used on squad budgets including transfer fees. There are allowable losses, but clubs need to demonstrate how these are covered, this is where owner investment is counted as revenue through irrevocable payment for shares. Note- shares, not owner loans. This is why to get to the next step we need additional investment. An extra 500 on the gate would help enormously of course.behind the goals wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 4:34 pm With some of the budgets announced this week on various social media sites how long before a Division 4 Club go bust or the owners say enough is enough, Barrow AFC budget of £2.6m is bad enough but is madness at other Clubs, yet even at our Club supporters want new players and Ground improvements plus Promotion to league 1, we have to be realistic on our crowds where does all this money come from to please the fan base who soon disappear when results go against us.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Back to Stanway and I don't think he's ready full-time for EFL 2 yet.
I would loan him out to a National League side for at least part of next season assuming we can keep Farman. I would then get another decent keeper for the bench.
Much will depend on Farman.

That's you opinion think I'll trust the opinion of Andy Whing, to say Stanway isn't ready for league 2 is totally nonsense.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 2:05 pm Back to Stanway and I don't think he's ready full-time for EFL 2 yet.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
It isn't working that way, most players are playing out contracts and then moving on. As will happen this summer. FFP has reduced Transfer fee activity between clubs, especially at our level, and most clubs (ourselves included) cannot afford to splash out a fee mid contract and instead are waiting for players to become free agents. Unless we unearth an absolute gem of a player in the first half season of a three year contract I don't think we will be making much from the transfer fee market. So it’s all about balancing risk with a squad of potential with experience around them.FanzoneFan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 1:45 pm Surely it all comes down to cost. We have to rely on developing our younger players and if all goes well sell them on. That’s the type of club we are because we haven’t got the resources some other League Two clubs have. So bearing that in mind Stanway is the obvious first choice keeper for next season.
It always amuses me reading this forum when people say we need an experienced 20 goal a season striker. Everyone does but we can’t afford one so have to shop accordingly.
As for the twenty goal striker quote. I think that’s taken out of context, everyone knows these players are hard to come by but we have not had any one player anywhere near the top 30 goals scorers in EFL2 and that is a massive concern. Don't think we've had anyone in double figures for three seasons and that should be more of a concern to Whing than anywhere else on the pitch.

Totally agree, the losses some of these clubs are posting is just crazy. The irony is, half of these clubs supporters moan about our ground & the restricted views….no good having a nice shiny stadium with all the facilities when your club is dropping millions of £s into the red each year.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

The amount of losses being run up by these clubs wouldn't be allowed in any other line of business. For some reason that I have never understood clubs are allowed to carry on and carry on recording losses year on year.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 5:43 pmbehind the goals wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 4:34 pm With some of the budgets announced this week on various social media sites how long before a Division 4 Club go bust or the owners say enough is enough, Barrow AFC budget of £2.6m is bad enough but is madness at other Clubs,

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Clubs can report managed losses over three year cycle and the coffers get shored up with ownership fundraising through shares. Basically- bigger clubs= bigger revenues = can afford to lose more. Does it take away the dream of a smaller club reaching dizzy heights? Money isn’t everything but it helps.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 6:00 pmThe amount of losses being run up by these clubs wouldn't be allowed in any other line of business. Yep football is generally managed with hearts not heads by most clubs. And as for the 'nice shiny stadiums' most look mainly deserted on the ELF Highlights show! At Holker St you can usually see and hear that a few hardy souls have actually turned up to watch. Many would agree four thousand supporters in a thirty thousand seater stadium is not usually a good look for TV or those clubs.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 5:43 pmbehind the goals wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 4:34 pm With some of the budgets announced this week on various social media sites how long before a Division 4 Club go bust or the owners say enough is enough, Barrow AFC budget of £2.6m is bad enough but is madness at other Clubs,

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Think Stanway has done really well the last few games, surprised me tbh. A few minor slip ups but certainly been worthy of being given a chance and the experience will have done him no harm. Do people think he should be first choice next season if Farman isn’t or buy a replacement. Personally I’d think he should be given a chance.

I appreciate that, but he has played more games since. Some weren’t sure and I wondered if opinions have changed. Now I know why I don’t often post anythingbluessupporter wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 8:49 pmThat was the question that started this thread! Stanway has done really well and proved sceptics like me wrong, thankfully. For me ,he’s the new number 1,good enough, deserves it,and a local lad, fantastic.
