God knows, the rumour i heard this week was that the development would include a new police station for Barrow on the site. Good old pub talk, what next ayGTBLUE wrote:Why do people get everything wrong all the [SwearFilter] time. It's not a NEW stadium, it's money for tarting up what we've already got.

That's a drivel-ridden, six month old thread from some forum or other. Your standard of sleuthing has gone down the tubes if you're linking that to a potential announcement tonight.Wintergreen wrote:All sounds well and good and not before time - maybe they have something to announce too...

Re: Meet the Board Night
Completely agree with what barrowaberdeen says in that its blindlingly obvious the board need help and we can do what we can to help which would free them up to do other things such as trying to get hospitality for example.
However when I spoke to TK at the weekend I would question that the board think there actually is a problem or their heads are buried in the sand about it all? I mentioned about there only being 15 in the hospitality at Saturdays game and his reaction was that we always have a slow start to the season. This isn't true as around 200-250 were in the hospitality for the first 2 games of last season (compared to 55 this season). If that isn't accepting there isn't a problem I don't know what is and its also an insult to our intelligence and I'm getting pretty annoyed with responses like that.
I just hope the board do accept there's a problem and let us help out but I have my doubts as to whether they will or will just pay lip-service to fans requests. I'm just wondering if there is something else going on because any normal board would be concerned yet ours don't seem as though they care or even accept a problem exists despite the absolute mess the club is clearly in and so far have tried not to accept help from willing volunteers.

Summed up in a nutshell right there.
Lets hope tonight some genuine concerns are addressed and some positivity comes out of this meeting

Re: Meet the Board Night
Well said and good luck for tonight!! I cant make it but would be happy to volunteer in some capacitybarrowaberdeen wrote:A fair few of us (some from the ISC, one or two from BDF/NSC, some not) have been talking, and this is how we propose to take things forward:
We propose a supporters committee set up to report to the board and take some control of day to day matters, to support the board's work. It's very much about getting a measure of control back, and looking forward, being proactive etc, not name calling or pointing fingers. We are a members club and should be acting as such- that's a two way street.
They would meet either a representative of the board or the board every month.
This group would take responsibility for:
Administering the volunteer programme
Fans liason with Stewarding/ and policing, home and away
Initiatives such as free tickets for schools etc, Junior Bluebirds, bringing in young people
Fund Raising (mostly left in the gift of the BDF, who do a good job, but with new ideas coming in)
Supporting the shop, modernising, sourcing products etc.
The committee would act as a hub for different groups within the support.
eg BDF, ISC, NSC but also people with new ideas, much like YOU. i see the volunteer plan as being an important part of that, however also the whole thing needs shaking up.
I think it's going to be very easy to get bogged down in recriminations, and some hard things do need to be said, but if that's all that happens a great opportunity will have been lost.
From a purely personal point of view now, I'm not going to sit there and accept future promises on this from the B.O.D- I passionately believe it has to happen now, not at a future A.G.M and that responsibility and support and control of what happens at Barrow A.F.C has to be widened, starting tonight.

Re: Meet the Board Night
Also (don't think it's been mentioned ) why has it not been advertised in the Mail for all Barrow fans to know about and not just those with a computer, or those that look on here. Do the club want as least as possible fans there tonight. Shock horror!! If it has been advertised I stand corrected, but I have looked and could not see it.

Re: Meet the Board Night
Of course the town derserves BSP or even lower level FL Football...................You only need to look a mile down the road to see that (( if )) the club were "squeaky clean" held regular open fan friendly meetings, showed everyone the mess they are in, Place fans of the club with business pedigree in places of authority then IMHO every person with the best interests of the club at heart would unite and propel us forwards.Matty Bassdriver wrote:Whilst like others I welcome the fact that the BOD are willing to make themselves available it is clearly unfortunate that only 48 hours notice has been provided for this meeting.
'Does the town really deserve BSP football'...
So maybe the question should be "Do the current incumbants deserve to be in their current positions" As guardians of OUR Club ?

Re: Meet the Board Night
I agree Barrowaberdeen it is what we need, it's similar to my recent postbarrowaberdeen wrote:A fair few of us (some from the ISC, one or two from BDF/NSC, some not) have been talking, and this is how we propose to take things forward:

"If the BoD are "overworked" then the question must be asked "why don't they want our help?" maybe we might get in the way.
Several years ago I suggested to a Director, that each Director take on the role of
SECRETARY
FINANCE
FUNDRAISING
COMPANY DEVELOPMENT
MAINTENANCE
TEAM DEVELOPMENT
etc.
and then create sub-committees made up of volunteer members that could shoulder the some of the work load."
I have been suggesting this to the BOD for years
We're all supporters on here. Let's leave the negative comments to the away fans
Re: Meet the Board Night
Any news on what the BOD had to say for themselves or was it all bullshiz as usual?
