Do the club need to answer to parents.
These lads are adults not kids. its between the club and the players.
If they were u16s then fair enough.

No Al they don't.
But you'd like to think they could handle things better than has been painted! Anyhow, let's wait and see eh.

I'd reserve judgement to see the clubs perspective but I have to say that the club are being slated for their handling of the matter but was it necessary to plaster it all over the forums? It's not like Pete is impossible to get hold of, I'm sure he'd have willingly got hold of the right people to try and resolve things amicably.

In an adult world is it ok to dismiss someone contracted to your football club/company using potentially wrongful accusations of drugs?

Not saying it isn't.
Just that that the club have no obligation to answer to the parents.

Let's see what comes of it, not a lot I would think. If the club takes back the player's then there will be bad feelings between both parties which is no use to anyone, particularly now it has been let out in to the open. I also think the high level investigation is a bit over the top, why not just investigation?
Possibly where the performance centre are wrong, is that a formal warning could have been given much earlier then if the problems continued they can say we warned you this would happen.
I do think that the whole performance centre idea needs looking at, run much more thoroughly and professionally rather than on a part time basis, maybe this will come later in PC's plan. Are the managers paid other than meeks? I like the idea of it all, but get the feeling that at the moment its a few people with good intentions hoping for something bigger.
Dino, I do feel for your boy, but I would also question why he plays for Askam on a Saturday when he has a performance centre game on a sunday? That is in no way a dig at him, just something I have noticed with a few players?

A valid question, this was a point I raised in this thread
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22208 when i questioned why the performance centre joined a Sunday league when so many players played for their clubs on a Saturday.
This was the reply I got, you can read the full version on that thread.

Centre and local clubs
Since the formation of the Centre, we have worked extremely hard to firstly rebuild and maintain a good relationship with local clubs, and until things change we work on the policy that “clubs come first”. A recent example is this Sunday, in which the U14 squad will travel to Carlisle Utd missing 7 players due to club commitments in the Lancashire Cup. This shows that the policy stretches beyond the U18 age groups.
This is a topic that divides opinion and Neil Doherty consulted all clubs when forming the Centre, and by carrying through our policy we have helped to build positive links........................................
........................As of this we still allow U18 players to play for their open-age clubs on a Saturday. We know that this is not ideal with our U18 manager chasing players on a Saturday evening due to injuries from Saturday games. We are looking at ways forward to improve our players, whilst maintaining good links with clubs and plans are afoot to speak with local clubs to work out an effective model going forward. To make players choose between club or Centre isn’t the way forward at this present time, and are in no position to explore this model just yet.
Like you said its not just him many of them are playing Saturday, its not an ideal situation and is one that the performance centre are looking into and I would expect the day will come when you only play for them, till then the lads just want to be playing football and if the policy is 'club first' they will play on a Saturday then again on a Sunday.
So to answer you question, its because he can!

It's an extremely harsh business all this, especially when these lads have become so exposed to the opinions of others at a relatively young age. No matter how old you are it's not nice to be told 'you're not good enough'. On the plus side there's plenty of lads who've gone on to the very highest level after suffering this initial rejection: Ian Wright, Stan Collymore, Stuart Pearce etc.
What I will say though is that I got a sofa delivered last week from dfs and the delivery driver was Richard Prokas, a former Carlisle player (over 200 appearances) and maybe best remembered for his two-footed challenge on Patrick Viera. He's a nice guy and a good craic but let him be lesson to all involved in all this business, there's life before, during and after football.
Unfortunately, it's not all about 'The Game'.

First of all.
The drugs part is categorised ( rightly or wrongly) its not a direct " this player is an addict weve seen it rah rah rah). Yeah the club have been stupid to mention the word ' drugs' but its clearly a generalisation. It also mentions Social Media in the same sentence but no one is outraged over that. ( thats me kind of defending the club there)
I played for Barrow AFC Juniors from 13 to 16. I didnt get taken onto the u18's after the Under 16's. I just played football elsewhere and got on with it. My dad wasn't arsed enough to go to the Evening Mail .
Then again this was in the days before people went online all the time. A time when people just got on with things after set backs and didn't let it bother them, a time when Investigations were things only the police would impose. Ahhh 2005 where did you go?
Live and let die.

This about sums up what I think
Could have been handled better by the club and is was probably meant to be some sort of constructive criticism rather than the "your not good enough son" approach and it's failed miserably
Anyone who thinks that the decision on whether a player gets kept on is judged by anything other than ability is deluded
I also wonder that if the OPs son had have been kept on by the club would he had took to the forum to vent his frustrations about the way the other lads had been let go ?

Barrow AFC has launched a high level investigation into the events on Wednesday march 11th, relating to issues surrounding the Performance Centre.
It would be inappropriate to comment further until the investigation is complete.
We ask that people give us time to investigate this matter fully.
So there you go, club will investigate and deal with the matter in the correct way hopefully. Until the outcome I don't think it fair to slate anyone on the forum or voice any frustrations.

I agree with a former member of this forum.
The introduction to the four points is carelessly worded but I read them as general focii for the planned discussions to take place with players.
Several potential future learning points appear to emerge from Dino's continuing complaints - some of which have been well responded to in the past by those associated with the youth set-up - but until this enquiry is complete and any public findings are published it is hard to judge the most recent complaints with just one side of the story from which to judge.

Can someone please explain to me why there is even a thread about this topic when nobody knows what's happened until an official statement has been released by the club?
It just seems a case of sour grapes to me, a lad was released and the parent doesn't like it. That's life, literally millions of kids get released by clubs every year and thank God not every parent goes on forums to vent their anger.
As for the drugs angle, surely that was a generalisation and not an actual accusation?

Gents, that's all fine, I agree but that letter is badly worded and if they have really called them all in like that, with one more game to go and punted them en masse.. give over.

I note the number of people commenting on here who have no knowledge whatsoever of what's gone on? They have no idea of which players have been released or "retained"(to what?-I don't know)They've probably never attended an under 18s fixture? The large majority couldn't name you half a dozen of the players? I personally,am just waiting for the clubs response(excuses),before I post my opinions.Believe me,if you haven't witnessed first hand the things that have gone on this season, you can't really pass comment? Suffice to say, results speak for themselves,&,in normal circumstances, the blame usually lies with the coaches & management? I'll leave it at that for now.
