I attended a council meeting at Vickerstown school in the l990’s where the Soccer and Rugby tried to get a joint stadium on the old Rezza site. The Labour council knocked it back and nothing solid has ever been proposed again.
York City and York Knights share a stadium with each club getting 17% of the match day food and drinks income, does anyone really think we could survive off that?
Other clubs are trying to get a joint venture but unless you own your own stadium, like us, then you’re just giving money away
Exactly this, but people prefer to ignore the facts and keep bringing it up again every few weeks.

Quite right, Mark. There are several clubs in EFL 2 and EFL 1 who have done their time in the National league and have come back, some quickly and some after a long time. It will be a new chapter but possibly one where we can regroup and be up around the playoff places instead of us nervously looking towards the basement.

No they don’t. We were told the club had no real interest in a joint venture at the Q&A night despite the fact they had been attending meetings about such a proposal. Go figure.

Workington don't seem to have a problem coming up with an 'extra £4.5 million', on top of the already allocated '£11 million', to build a new 5000 mainly seated, community stadium, to be shared by both the town's Football and Rugby Clubs.

Appreciate this old chestnut has been discussed for years, but Barrow has 3x Workington's population, so could someone please remind me again, simply and briefly, why Craven Park or Holker St can't be sold and the town's 2 professional teams, supported by funding from the Government, Cumbria and Furness authorities, Sports grants, £BAE, etc. copy Workington's fully funded plan and get serious about sharing one new, decent, ground? If our Cumbrian neighbours can do it, with a Football team languishing in the Northern Premier League and a Rugby team struggling in the Championship League, both with attendances of less than 1000, why can't we at least start talking? What is the problem here?!

The problem here is that there is not enough appetite for it. There are too many not prepared to think differently and will always come up with negative scenarios about ground share.

It shows what can be achieved when there is a will in a want to do it. Sadly in Barrow there isn't that will or want so we are left with two money pit shit grounds.

I think there is a will to do it from most of the supporters of both codes, but it's getting the officials of each club to come to an agreement with each other and have the vision and enthusiasm to get it over the line.

Would love to hear that old pals Steve Neale and Paul Hornby were having a coffee together at Costa to once again discuss the need for a new, up-to-date, decent ground for both professional teams.

They don't. The owner Matt Uggla made a flippant remark on X saying "sooner we get our own ground the better" following banning orders issued by the police to some York fans who broke down a hoarding and spilled on to the pitch during a recent game Its common place for Uggla to throw his toys out when he believes he has been wronged.
