I don’t think you can appeal against a second yellow can you, just straight reds?

Aye your right Scott, the official was so wrong in the decision.

You can appeal 2nd yellows now that lead to reds - but as Murray said in my post match it’s not worth the hassle so they aren’t bothering

I’m not sure it was a penalty but he got bumped and how he could call it a dive is amazing.
Gloucester man shouldve gone earlier when he caught Cameron late but wasn’t booked, and then pulled Harper back minutes later which either he wouldn’t have done on a yellow, or if he had would be gone. After he finally got his booking he was then subbed and Thompson got some rough treatment first half but no one even got spoken too!
At least he won’t be refereeing the replay away at Gloucester, it used to be years ago that you got the same officials again in the replay.

Not a game to stick in the memory hope we successful on another plastic pitch on Tuesday.Cant understand why sprinklers were on pitch looked soft and cutting up.Lots of falling over .At end of game sadly a large group of our yoblets dressed in black were waiting top of Holker street across road from coach trying to be well hard and inviting the small number of Away fans to join them for a fight.A policeman was present hands in pockets who told them to move on.First lot of idiots I seen for a while not a good look for club.If you can’t behave don’t come reflects bad on the club.

The results really confirm just how poor the National League is this season. Only 5 NL teams won against lower league teams while 7 drew and 2 lost. Even from the 5 which won, 3 of those were only by one goal.

I was going to comment on that too - some really poor NL results - not sure if it makes me feel any better though! We need to turn up and do the business on Tuesday night.

I’ve thought from the start it’s a poor league. You can’t fault the effort and endeavour but the lack of quality is glaringly obvious.. Even in our large squad I would be struggling to pick half a dozen who could step up
To league 2. The gap between the two leagues is wider than many perceive it to be imo

Clearly the ability of NL teams to fend off lower level sides in the FA Cup seems to be degrading and I agree this demonstrates the current quality of those in the division. Those arguing for 3 up/3 down should take note.
But there may be an even more worrying trend beginning to appear. You, like me might have been more than a little surprised to see Southend beaten at home by little Berkhampstead yesterday. Less surprising however when we learn that Southend had made NINE changes to the team from their last NL outing. Can it really be the case that some teams at this....non-league... level have so little respect for the FA Cup that they feel it appropriate to play totally sub-standard sides?
Southend's manager Keiron Dyer clearly concluded that the risk (if not shame) of losing yesterday was less than the possible "pot of gold" that lies ahead for them by escaping the NL. This at a time when they are not even the favourites do so. If I were a Southend fan, I think I would be feeling very short changed this morning - especially if I were one of the thousands that went.

It’s a one off cup tie that means everything to one side and maybe not as much to another
Upsets happen in these types of games - doesn’t necessarily mean that the team isn’t up to much.

But you could say the same about L2 and the NL. There's a period of ten seasons from 1974-84 when Swindon got to at least the 3rd round nine times when were were in Division 3 or Division 4, and apart from a couple of seasons we weren't exactly a leading Division 3 team. The only really bad result in that period is when we managed to lose to Tooting & Mitcham in a 3rd round replay. (When we lost to Dagenham in 1985, Lou Macari called the team out for drinking and overhauled the squad - it was seen as that much of an embarrassment and we were in Div. 4 at the time.)
These days we can't get past the 1st round and even a home draw against a non-league isn't seen as a "well, we'll beat them" tie - the other year we managed to be 0-7 down at home to Aldershot Town before pulling it back to a slightly less embarrassing 4-7, but this was still the first time a non-league team had scored seven against an EFL team (the fact that the players were allegedly not making an effort because their wages were late isn't an excuse AFAIC).
I think you're right about fans feeling short-changed, particularly if an FA Cup brings someone back to the ground after drifting away or is someone's first game. Taking a kid to their first game is still expensive, particularly for league games - even if they get in for nothing or a quid, you've still bought your ticket and they could easily get bored or cold and want to go home, particularly if the game is poor. If a club drops the ticket prices for a cup game, it's an ideal opportunity to see if your lad or daughter likes the football. And if you get through, they're enthusiastic about the next round (particularly if you're drawn at home). Even those fans who've drifted away and go to a cup game which you win can get back into going to games.
At least a replay gives you a second bite of the cherry, but if I supported Southend, I'd be dead annoyed this morning. If you're a non-league team and you draw an EFL team at home in R1 you might well be on TV - and there are some big names in League 1 these days. On top of the TV money, you've got extra publicity, there's more of a buzz about the place and another opportunity to get fans back or get new ones through the turnstile, who might come back the following Saturday.

It’s a cup game. Teams were rotating players, says nothing about us or the rest of the NL. Like you say only 2 lost.

That's the beauty of the FA Cup.
No team no matter how big is guaranteed to go through, as Adam rightly points out, one team wants it more than the other, sometimes both teams cancel each other out!
A replay was never ideal especially if it's on another plastic pitch, it brings risk and if we have any ambition of trying to gain promotion, it's the cup games that worry me despite the potential financial gain.
We've had a good runin the league with 5 on the bounce and would like to see that momentum continue for the team but also the fans too, good results raise eyebrows and curiosity which in turn, brings feet through the gates.
