I was at both the Southampton and Leicester games. The biggest thrill though was beating Tranmere 2:1 in the second round, January 1967. I was 8 years old, bobble hat on head, rattle in hand. I fainted briefly with excitement in the crowd crush but didn't fall over as it was impossible to do so!

Re the Wolves game, I found this. I see that the ref was the famous (in those days) Kevin Howley from Middlesbrough.

Nearly 10 years ago we went to Bristol Rovers who at the time were league 1, we were national league under Paul Cox and won 2-1, a great day out. Not a glamour tie Gillingham and you can argue you'd want the lowest club at home to give a chance of getting through and getting more prize money, and a big draw in the next round but that doesn't always work as Gloucester almost showed.

It's a free hit and no one will expect anything, Gillingham will be huge favourites which may just play into our hands.
We'll need to be a lot better than last night and no sloppiness or errors at the back but I'm sure the players will rise to the occasion and crowd as they did at Southend. On the day it's 90+ minutes and you just never know...

I saw all 4 matches mentioned although I was only 9 years old for the Swansea match. I remember I was upset because my parents went to the replay but I wasn't allowed to go because of school and was left with family friends. Sadly don't remember too much about the game. Main memory of the Wolves game is feeling freezing cold and seeing all the braziers on the pitch right until just before the game was starting. Do remember it was a good game against a Wolves team who, at that time, were one of the best in the country. The Southampton match was a great game and one we definitely should have won and only the excellent Ron Davies saved them from defeat. Like Jim, I also remember little of the Leicester game. There was also the game against a very good Nottingham Forest side which I think was in the league cup.

I was at both Southampton and Leicester games, each eloquently described by the posters above. Barrow v Southampton is simply the best, most exciting game of football I have ever witnessed and its memory will remain with me until I depart this mortal coil.
The Sunday Express (which, at the time, was a half-decent broadsheet) led its back page with the headline 'Barrow on the Brink'

Was at the big games apart from Swansea. Can remember Billy McAdams fantastic goal, Tony Field jinked into the area along the byline then cut it back to the edge of the box for Billy to arrow it home into the top corner. I remember Billy also having a clash with Dave Webb nothing too nasty but several minutes later Billy was all alone in the middle of the pitch writhing on the ground holding his back from a kidney punch. Not many saw it as Webb stayed on.

Thanks for all the memories folks even more impressed that some can remember the Swansea game I think Ivor Allchurch may have played for them that day.

I am certain that Ivor Allchurch did play at Barrow, but I don't think his brother Len played. Mel Charles also played that day, although his famous big brother John (subsequently known as King John in Italy) had probably gone to Leeds United by then. John Charles, unfortunately, definitely did not play.

I went to the Southampton, Leicester games also when we beat Crystal Palace in the league cup, and also when we lost to Forest in the same competition!
Southampton had Martin Chivers ( went on to playfor Spurs ),Terry Payne ( England International) a young David Webb and Ron Davies ( Welsh International) Barrow should have won and were robbed in the replay when Davies scored by punching the ball into the net !, if I remember rightly 15,000 odd against Southampton and over 16,000 against Leicester ( Peter Shilton in goals).

Well I was surprised if we can beat Gillingham we will receive £47000 that would help.
Some serious money to be earned.

Still the tournament where dreams can be met, even though the Premiership has diluted it somewhat in recent years.
It can certainly help strengthen a clubs budget especially a non league club if you have run that’s for sure.

When we get through to the 4th round for the first time in our history we'll have earned nigh on £300,000 (excluding TV money, of course). Gotta accentuate the positive.

Looking forward to beating Man Utd away in the 3rd round 😀
