It was looking good for us John with two crosses in the 8th and 9th minute, the first across the goal and the second fired by Thompson straight at their goalie. However in the 12th minute, the decision to abandon was probably reinforced when the ball became mired in the mud between Oakley and Winterbottom. Fortunately Winterbottom cleared in the nick of time!
Ball never reached Winterbottom through the standing water - see Twitter video above.

The goal was hilarious and in our favour but you knew before that the game was going to be a farce.
Officials are in between a rock and a hard place in these situations. Either they call it off too early and people moan for not giving it a chance, or they play on like today and they get criticised for wasting journeys.
The Crossbar and Hospitality didn't miss out. Me and my young son were in the 1901 lounge and we both had a great time, credit to all the staff.

The official put himself there today. It was absolutely clear from the pitch inspection that the game should have been called off at 2:15 latest. The ball was thrown in the air and landed with a dead splat...several times and in several areas. There was no chance it wasn't going to be farcical. From that point though, the ref needed to see it through. Nothing that happened wasn't 100% obvious (that it was going to happen). It would have been entertaining for the crowd anyway.
Pop Robson and Co must be laughing their comb-overs off.
No sympathy for the officials at all today.

Putting what happened from 3pm from a footballing perspective aside, Murray's post match was worrying. He pulled at his nose a a good couple of times. Expect us to slide down the table.

What a stupid comment. What on earth do you base that supposition on.Will you eat humble pie if we beat Halifax on Tuesday night and admit you were wrong?
Why is it people like you are always looking forward to this club failing Whatever you say about Murray he has instilled a spirit of never say die in this team.Last season on the way back from.Cambridge our bus called at the service station at the same time as the players bus.A lot of the players were laughing and joking in the services and a lot of them avoided the supporters.I talked to Josh Gordon and I asked him why some of the players didn,t show the same commitment as him and he basically said they didn,t care. This team is different, they try so please give them a bit of credit. We also have a manager who has done his best to turn round the culture of the club so at least give him credit for turning around what was a sinking ship.

I detect a hint of sarcasm in there as someone previously made a comment about Murray’s body language in interviews.
Looked like it was always going to be inevitable with the weather. At least on the plus side we’ll be fresher for Tuesday although still missing PK, and forest green won’t relish coming up on a Tuesday night.

I would imagine even given Tuesdays drier forecast that our visit to the Shay will be already in doubt as it’s notoriously a dodgy pitch at the best of times.

Just out of curiosity, is there any video of Marriott’s goal? There was an amusing bit of video on YouTube from the terraces that showed warm up, then suddenly switched to the FG keeper picking the ball out of the net and a voice saying “what have I missed”.

Thanks for that. Murray said a few weeks ago that we needed to learn how to use the wind as it was such a common feature at Holker Street, so yesterday there looked like a definite attempt to play what Eddie Waring would have called "an up n under", thereby causing confusion in the opposition penalty area.

Don’t think it’s a “wind tactic” as such
They did the same on Tuesday
Simply an attempt at trying to get territory and cause havoc from the start
The conditions certainly aided the havoc and a technical bit of quality from Isaac Marriott

He sounded like he was full of a cold, so maybe that's why he pulled his nose.

I don't think they declare them for an abandoned game.
