We have done that, Grimes, Mellor, Haworth, Williams, but we are not progressing with them. Let's face it every new signing is a bit of a gamble.

By the way of the above signings, not sure how many were Edmo's choices.
Not suggesting for one minute that players from league above are all better you have to pick the right ones!!!!

Grimes 42 games for Bury & Walsall 2 goals

Mellor 47 games for Oldham over 4 years then let go

Howarth had more clubs that Rory Mcilroy 12 clubs in 7 years. Let go by Cheltenham who were in free fall then relegated.

None of these had a good pedigree so reflects on a poor manager.

None of them would have got a sniff elsewhere in our league IMHO :)

Bring poor quality in get poor quality on the pitch.

To be fair unless you are very well informed, do you know where each FC Utd and Telford player played last season?

what relevance has that?

Cooky left Grimsby conference national to come down a league to barrow in conference north. Yes?

With regard to AFC Telford they went into freefall after relegation because they couldn't afford to strengthen and are in real danger of plummeting further still. FC United have also plateaued and will probably fall back to where they came from

Point is, there is good players in that league, example being Andy Cook playing in that league last season, Jamie Vardy at one point etc. So yes, we may be scouting around that league, and there may be players there, cant just discount it.

Perhaps we should raid AFC Fylde they are in a lower league than Barrow and have beaten us constantly for the last 12 months

Sorry Dave the comment on FC Utd is borderline arrogance!,they have their own stadium, have a good fanbase, just because we have money doesn`t change the way i look at other clubs!

FC United. the fact they have their own ground etc has no relevance to me. On the field they aren't good enough and that's what I was talking about.

As far as their laudable principles are concerned I take them with a big pinch of salt since a large proportion of their fans still also go to MUFC home games. I know because I live there and know many fans who actually do this. Their model as a club is fine its just that their players aren't good enough. that could be us in a couple of years if we don't address it. a shiny new stadium with great facilities but poor players dragging us back down. The point is that a club with really good players with poor facilities will ultimately fail by being dragged down in just the same way as a really good club with great facilities but crap players will fail the same way.

The alternative view might be that he returned to Conference North because he couldn't quite cope at Conference National level.

I don't see how you can say that FC United will fail. The club are still on a upward curve, having had a number of promotions in their 10 year history and winning a number of cup competitions along the way. At present they are consolidating in the National League North (Just like we should be doing in the National League). Karl Marginson (Ex-Bluebirds player) has been their manager since the club was formed overseeing FC United's rise through the pyramid (PC take note Re: Edmo's position), I would suggest that this is a good model to follow. The only main difference is that over the 10 years they have averaged between 2000-3000 gate for each home season not like us.

Karl marginson probably has contact outside the CA postcode.

Really don't wish to get into an argument over this.

their gates were always going to be a lot bigger than ours since they are a spin off from MUFC who average 70000+ for home games.

Yes I know Karl is ex Barrow afc and he's done a good job BUT as I said I think (my view) that they have plateaued particularly with their restrictive constitution. The emergence of Salford City will in my view surpass them and some of FC United fans will drift. I don't expect them to fail as such but do feel they will find their place around Conference North or maybe National league if they start to spend on better players. Its taken them several years to get out of the Unibond and they only just pipped wukkie eh last year. We've seen clubs with their own grounds etc do well before but have disappeared (Darlington, Rushden & Diamonds, Colne Dynamos) since.
There is a good deal of hypocrisy about MUFC which I don't like.
If you get chance to go to their ground it will demonstrate how not to build one, its not very good considering the amount spent. I really feel they have no real ambition to climb much further up the ladder and will be happy to stay around where they are. They exist as a point of principle sticking two fingers up to "the glazers and their ilk" The original sense of optimism and drive has waned (I know people involved at the top end of the club) and as I say I don't see them going much further. Just my opinion.

Back on topic...

There's one thing about this moth that Edmo has allegedly got from the owner and that is that I have had more time to encapsulate the zeitgeist and fashion an appropriate poem.

Having said that I would rather it remain unpublished - or perhaps at the 'parson's nose' of the Xmas Collection.

We will see which way our chips pan out of the er, pan as it were.
