Our first away point of the season, and we came back from being a goal down, so why does it feel like we lost?

Simple. If we'd played to our potential we'd have won.

Time after time, our attacking moves involved a high ball to Cook, and although - as usual - he worked hard his options were limited against a tall defence. It was only when we played the ball on the ground that we scored, substitute Pilkington taking his goal well.

A lesson learned? Perhaps; we shall see.

Cheers John, was BvdB as bad as it sounded on the radio, they were saying players were giving him grief for not getting involved enough??

Apparently Dan Livesey was having spasms in his lower back, hopefully a bit of Physiotherapy and he will be right for Tuesday because if out for anytime at all we will struggle big time!

Without having heard the radio commentary, I have to say, he probably was.

Not sure about straight red but it was out of order.

The substitutions were inspiring and timely, we nearly went on and won the game

Being brutally honest, we were [SwearFilter] poor. Braintree were also [SwearFilter] poor, probably marginally better than us but being the home side playing a team without a point on the road I would expect them to take the initiative and they rarely troubled us in all honesty. In the end we nearly did a Halifax and had chances to win it following Pilks very well taken goal.

Van den Broke was as bad as the commentary made out. Pilks did excellent after coming on though he spurned a second good opportunity. The much maligned Cowps also did very well. Other than those two and Dixon no-one else really had a good day. We had three passages of decent football in the whole 90 minutes when we got the ball on the deck and used it - one resulted in a goal and the other two gave us our other two best chances. Most of the game was aimless high hopeful balls to nothing from both sides.

After a decent start to this season Walker had a real off day with his only telling contribution to clatter into the keeper who rolled around on the floor until he realised he wasn't going to get Jase sent off then made an instant recovery. Cook gave his all as usual but nothing much stuck for him today and no-one fed off his scraps.

On the plus side if you ignore the top 7 or 8 then according to the table Braintree are currently the best of the rest. The fact is that the bottom two thirds of this league are gash and we are among that group so whilst we aren't getting anywhere near the play-offs, I also can't see us in relegation trouble unless the wheels completely come off. Cook is going to get us goals and if we can keep Haworth and Pilks regularly on the pitch then we will always carry a threat.

Strange day as actually went home quite happy with a first away point of the season but we were much better at Cheltenham and for 80 minutes at Halifax. Still a great day out as always due to the company and Braintree is still shit-hole.

Good day out yes, but I was highly dischuffed by the football. Play high balls to Cook and nowt happens (no fault of Cook); play it on the ground to Pilks and we score. It felt like a defeat today, to be honest.

Sounds like a standard Saturday afternoon!

Cowps changed the game when he came on - carried the ball forward in midfield more in his first 5 minutes on the pitch than Mellor had done in the previous 77.

Edmo has said that van den Broek can play in several positions. Winger obviously isn't one of them.

...and (I think) the assist for the goal - a clever and precise touch at full stretch to put the ball into Pilkington's path.

Didn’t go but delighted with a draw as Braintree have been picking up points and are no mugs. However as has been mentioned already BVDB got a hammering on the radio by Andy’s wooden leg. These aren’t actual quotes but near enough as I remember them.

They’re getting past him far too easily
Simon Grand is telling Van Den Broek that that’s his man
Non existent
Stood on the halfway line when Braintree’s goal went in
Probably the last time we’ll see Van Den Broek in a Barrow shirt for a long, long time

That sounds like his work rate and attitude leaves a lot to be desired and I can’t understand for the life of me why players can be like that when they have a decent platform to get noticed and perhaps go onto better things in their careers. Does he think it’s a working holiday in the UK?
