If we`re being brutally honest our central defenders are too inconsistant ,slow, don`t seem to communicate and have no awareness of the movement of the forwards that they are marking, most of the goals we have conceded have been very poor feel sorry for dixon the lad has virtually no protection at times, once Cox starts looking at videos of the goals (conceded )he`ll realise the job he has to turn it around!

Having heard what mr cox said yesterday I'm optimistic in what he will do for us, for me the full back positions have to be a priority for him to sort out
Just my opinion

If you analyse the goals we have conceded you will see that they come from midfielders losing possession in stupid places, from attackers not keeping with their man at set pieces and generally backing off throughout midfield. The 2 Centrebacks, who were thought the best in the division last season, are left constantly exposed time and time again. I couldn't get to Dover last week but did listen to it on the radio, they said several times that the voice you can hear is Grand trying to organise the back 4, no lack of communication there then. Having double figure chances at scoring and taking only one of them doesn't help the cause at this level when the better teams score say 1 in 4 chances.

No doubt the new manager will have his own ideas* about why the defence is conceding too many goals, the attack - Cook apart - aren't scoring as many as they should, and the midfield isn't working as a unit linking the two.

But his first priority must be motivation; we want eleven players on the field who will give all they've got and more for the club. For the entire 90+ minutes. Anyone who isn't prepared to do this should be on their way out.

And he also needs to improve discipline; we've had far too many players taking an early bath this season.

* If he hasn't, there are plenty on this forum who will help him. :)

I am sure that Paul Cox will have his on way of setting up the team & the way we play both defensively & attack wise, however I am a believer that defending starts from the front and this season apart from Andy Cook none of the other forwards (whoever was selected) did enough. Having said that, in my opinion a football match is won & lost in midfield and looking at it we haven't had a decent midfield to compete & battle it out since the days of Sheridan/Hulbert/Bond. Lets hope Mr. Cox sees that ASAP and gets it sorted. Onwards & upwards.

So summing up the posts on this topic, other than a goalkeeper prone to mistakes, a back 4 which is too slow, a non-existent midfield and only 1 striker who is capable of scoring, it's a pretty good team! Good luck, Mr Cox!!

This team needs a few tweaks 3-4 in the squad , not a major overhaul , soon find out over the coming month - either we do bad under Cox with this team or do well , all I'm saying is once this squad gets behind Cox we will pick up points play some good football and even entertain the Holker street faithful!

Cox said in his interview on BBC RC last night that he was looking to make moves after look at the squad and then consider loan signings before Thursday nights loan deadline. He is wanting to put his own stamp on the team. Be interesting who he goes for if anyone.

Mightwhites earlier link to last nights programme appears broken, try this for the BBC RC Football Forum. Programme starts at 5:15 (after the news & weather) and is about Barrow from the start, Casson interview starts at 19:40, Cox interview a bit later at 49:30 (about 7mins long).

Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

He's bound to try and sign some of his old Mansfield players. Managers like to get familiar faces in the squad
