He was crap. I saw him play at Woking and Braintree for us, no speed and too fatgeobarrovian wrote:Got it now, it was Lee Steele!geobarrovian wrote:Who was that really, really old striker we signed on loan towards the end of our first season back in the conference in 2008/09? I don't think he qualifies as a cult player but was trying to remember who he was when I was trying to get to sleep last night, a proper random player.

Re: Cult Players
Didn't play Braintree in Steele's time.
Paul Tait started in central midfield for that Woking game.

Re: Cult Players
Cliff Moyo surely?
Matt Flynn as well - a full back/wannabe striker
Andy "his name's on the team sheet last" Nicholas
Must be something about full-backs
I like remembering the pretty useless players we have had who hardly played/achieved bugger all, some of them complete non-footballers. We have had a lot in recent years. Aaron Cole was a real low point. I think he may have played in the same game at Woking with Obi Anuruo and Vinny Mukhendi - frightening!!
Also who remembers Tom Eckersley? I think his one and only appearance was the 8-1 defeat at Mansfield, poor lad

Ashley (but Dad I don't want to be a footballer like you) Grimes made a cult of himself when he was at Barrow.

What was that lad called we signed from Welsh football maybe ten years ago....scored goals for fun at Rhyl or somewhere? He came with a lot of expectation in the summer but couldn't buy a goal for us....Lee Hunt?

Re: Cult Players
Yep, that was him. he was a trier but it just never seemed to happen for him here....think we had been chasing him for quite a while as well.Moonwatcher wrote:What was that lad called we signed from Welsh football maybe ten years ago....scored goals for fun at Rhyl or somewhere? Similar tale with Mike Ballantyne, Ray Wilkie tried for several seasons to sign him up and when we did it just never looked like coming off for Mike. IIRC he then scored two goals (possibly a hat trick) in a game and announced he was quitting.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Edgy headcase? Check. Part folk-hero, part liability? Check. Part lard-arsed porker, part colossus? Check. Scored the equalising and game-changing goal on one of the greatest days in the club's history? Check.

Wasn't he also a driving instructor? Sounded like a bit of a character and scored in a pretty big game despite being mostly crap.Moonwatcher wrote:I remember when we signed him being intrigued by the fact that he had his own website.Lancaster Branch wrote:Kevin Rapley.
