Re: Barrow v Rochdale match thread
Unfortunately the Referee has no choice but to stop the game when a player goes down holding his head, just another infuriating law that the players are making the most off in this so called modern game, what with wasting time and diving about it`s not the same game now from a few years ago, look when Quigley went down holding his head never even close to his head, but our players will do the same but it really is spoiling the game, a player breathes on Connor Brown and he turns into Tom Daly and dives to the ground.

Re the head injury early in the game, their player was hit in the face by Whitfield's attempt to cross, can't have done him much har. Then when whitfield went back a few yards he followed, then suddenly collapsed. It looked to me like an attempt to stop a dangerous situation rather than a genuine injury.

Re: Barrow v Rochdale match thread
The most annoying part was that Barrow had possession of the ball on the edge of the Rochdale penalty area.Jim wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 7:40 pm Re the head injury early in the game, their player was hit in the face by Whitfield's attempt to cross, can't have done him much har. The referee instead of giving Barrow possession back, dropped the ball for the Rochdale keeper to restart the game.

Same thing happened tonight in the Arsenal Newcastle game. Many of the 'head injuries' were dubious, and there was one in particular where a Newcastle player went down clutching his head and the Arsenal player had just brushed his arm.behind the goals wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 7:29 pm Unfortunately the Referee has no choice but to stop the game when a player goes down holding his head, just another infuriating law that the players are making the most off in this so called modern game, what with wasting time and diving about it`s not the same game now from a few years ago, look when Quigley went down holding his head never even close to his head, but our players will do the same but it really is spoiling the game, a player breathes on Connor Brown and he turns into Tom Daly and dives to the ground.
I wish more refs had the bottle to give cards for simulation.

Re: Barrow v Rochdale match thread
Maybe some one could enlighten me on rules regarding "injured " players and taking them off the pitch if the physio comes on?
Pretty sure if the ref called the physio on each time and player had to leave the field of play until was allowed to return, then it would stop alot of the time wasting / play acting?

Re: Barrow v Rochdale match thread
It would help if referees only stopped the game if the player had a head injury If on inspecting the player he deems him using a time wasting tactic just yellow card the player.2 doors up wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 8:44 amMaybe some one could enlighten me on rules regarding "injured " players and taking them off the pitch if the physio comes on?

Re: Barrow v Rochdale match thread
That would be impossible in today`s game , each so-called injury now has to be assessed by the physio who then make a decision, can`t blame the referees imagine if a player was seriously injured etc. I`ve no doubt somebody would try and sue them for not having protected them, Alan Shearer said if it`s a head injury take the player off and put on a temporary substitute in their place ,I think this would help!2 doors up wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 8:44 amMaybe some one could enlighten me on rules regarding "injured " players and taking them off the pitch if the physio comes on?

It's a shame the rule is cynically abused by the very people it's designed to protect (and it was on Monday).

Exactly my point earlier in the thread.MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 9:50 am It's a shame the rule is cynically abused by the very people it's designed to protect (and it was on Monday).
Not sure how it would work with Alan Shearers suggestion as mentioned by blue nige, players need to warm up or risk an injury themselves.
MSST idea also couldn’t work as the referee obviously won’t be a professionally trained person in that field….half of them can’t even do their own job right.
I think the only way to stop this being abused is for the player to go off for a set amount of time and to be assessed by the right people.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Barrow v Rochdale match thread
Trouble with that is they writhe about on the floor and there is no way you would get them to go off, as if they could do so, then the supposed head injury would deemed to be fake.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 11:56 amExactly my point earlier in the thread.MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 9:50 am It's a shame the rule is cynically abused by the very people it's designed to protect (and it was on Monday).

Ian by the time they had done their checks etc then take another 2 minutes to put them on the stretcher we`d be no better off!, as for warming up I don`t think I`ve hardly seen any body warm up these day`s !
