Back on message, I have been observing for a good while now how our back line generally just chip the ball forward for our front men to try and make something of. It's seldom successful and terrible to watch. Wimbledon's midfield No.11 on Saturday ran the show early on by getting in space, receiving the ball, looking up and picking a decent pass. He was no world-beater but played it simple and was very effective and I just thought - that is what we have been missing all season. Can we get or create somebody like that? I'm talking Appleton, Halom, Lowe, Kenny, Marsh, Rooney to name a few. It's the missing link as far as I'm concerned.

I’ve pondered this- May not be pretty at times but it has been effective in getting us safely to mid table. Our possession and pass completion stats in games are often lower than the opposition’s but we have better “dangerous attacks” stats. Wild ball has been effective.

Sometimes, if a team plays passing football from the back, it is slow and ponderous (eg Barrow under Dunn) and gives the opposition plenty of time to organise. Two or three years ago you could watch England having 70% possession passing sideways and backwards but getting nowhere (I used to sid and read a book or the newspaper and only look up when the commentator got excited). It takes skill and intelligent movement to play to feet and get the ball forward quickly. I think Barrow under Evatt managed to play attractive and effective football (but perhaps that is my rose-tinted specs),

Wild has found a way that is effective, but not particularly attractive. I get the impression that some of the changes in team selection and formation of late have been somewhat experimental. Perhaps next season we may see a better balance between 'attractive' and 'effective' football.

This for me, We have to remember footy changes quickly & also think on that’s Pete’s number 1 priority was keep us up, Mission Accomplished.

Who’s to say that he will play the same way going forward?

Next season will see more of Petes lads in the team (Summer transfer window) & he might change as he learns exactly how L2 operates & adapts to it & now as we are stronger tactics will be tweaked in whatever way he & his staff believes suit us better ( hopefully)
