Really good battle I thought if rather low on finishing quality with a scrappy goal the difference between the two sides. Carlisle a physically tough team to deal with but we gave as good as we got and kept our discipline. Listened to both Managers on the way home and I don't think either gave a good account of themselves with Simpson being particularly passive-aggresive. And I don't think Wild needs to remind us anymore of where we were this time last year, we know, we experienced it, he didn't.
At last The voice of wisdom and sanity. It wasn’t a terrible game, we weren’t woeful, there wasn’t a great deal between the sides. But where there were differences they all illustrated Carlisles current superiority. Defensively Carlisle were really good especially defending in their own box. They also countered bettter and had more attacking options both on the field and on the bench.
Adam suggested to PW in his post match interview that we ‘huffed and puffed’. To some extent I agree that Carlisle made us look l like that though I actually thought that we were a little better than the description suggests. I do think it may have been the use of that term that prompted the the word ‘battering’ from PW. This was a typical bit of PW emotional reaction. Clearly Carlisle had not been battered but I don’t mind a bit of frustrated emotion just as I didn’t mind the similar tetchy comments from Paul Simpson in response Both managers however strayed into views not based on the facts and made comments about the other camp. That is not clever and should have been avoided.
I don’t think however that attempting to use managers or players exchanging verbal hand bags on each other to encourage ‘rivalry’ between the two sides where to be quite honest there is not much and never has been is the cleverest thing to be doing. I don’t think Radio Cumbria handled the post match analysis particularly well.
‘I’ve never really been one for accusations of bias with regards to RC’s coverage of football in the county and to be honest it’s not an issue of any great importance but when you bring the two parts of the county together in one place for one game you get a much more detailed opportunity to compare the level and depth of analysis within the coverage. Perhaps it comes down to the narrative styles of individuals. But it won’t discourage those on the forum that do sense a more nuanced bias against us.
But a good day out nonetheless and one we could only dream of until recently.
