Can’t see us getting more then 12 points from that. That’s being optimistic too

Re: Barrow v Forest Green Rovers, match thread
It's always about the winning the entertainment bit comes along after that. Sounds a terrible thing to say but at every level that is a fact. Even in the Fergie error I saw many boring tedious games that United won by the odd goal and luckily so many times but that was enough to keep everyone happy. I've seen the earlier versions of Man City grind out results and get what they needed and, sadly, for me look where they are now. Of course these teams have the finances etc etc but they are not immune to grind things out about before the entertainment value kicks in because, by then, confidence is soring and the opposition teams are scared of them. Barrow have to knuckle down and get back to basics - easier said then done - but its the only way. We've got to get the opposition thinking defensively, not like, by all accounts, last night when FGR dominated the middle and put pressure on our defence which is, whether we like it or not, not the quickest. We need to stop experimenting (or as they say resting) our best midfielders and if one gets injured replace them with another one and not make wholesale changes because of the opposition but keep our own system in place. In fact we need the opposition to think about us more rather than the other way round. Like others I'd like to see Stockton team up with Telford at the front and see what happens. We are coming into the crazy part of the season now. FGR might now get going, Stockport lost again Bradford maybe getting on a run (lets stop them on the 24th) and look at what Mansfield have just done! We need to get back on our horse.
Sorry for being so long winded and probably wrong about a number of things I've said but just had to get this off my chest. I love this club & would be over the moon if we can make the play offs - I think we have that ability in the squad to do it - I think we have the manager to do it as well. It's going to be quite a ride!

Yes, especially last night. Always desperation when you chuck 3 strikers on getting in each others way anyway but at least give them a chance and put the odd decent ball into the box

Re: Barrow v Forest Green Rovers, match thread
It’s a perfectly valid thing to mention. Not like last night was a one off, it’s knackered for the season and it’s costing us and will cost us more points (and as Wild said that’s no slight on Gareth who is doing his best)bluessupporter wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 8:41 am Difference was they coped with it better, but for Wild to mention it is clutching at straws and making excuses.

Put our strongest team out and we win that game. But i do understand Wild has to rotate his squad with three games in 7 days. Pitch is costing us now.
Re: Barrow v Forest Green Rovers, match thread
Excellent interview and I was impressed by Wild's responses. Regarding his comments about possibly looking at players on the fringes of the squad, I wonder if a change of formation - at least for home games - may be useful. I would be tempted to go 4-3-3 with a back four of Feely, Ray, Canavan and Mazeed, and a front three of Stockton, Telford (or Whitfield) and Acquah. Not sure who the midfield would be, perhaps Spence, Foley and White.MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 10:25 am Manager's interview with Adam:

Maybe the Club can't afford promotion it would need a completely new squad to compete in league 1, it just looked half arsed last night and now Wild has got his excuse ready for the next home match blame the pitch.

To be fair to Pete Wild it was Adam who brought up the state of the pitch first in his after match interview. Wild never used it as an excuse before Adam mentioned it. As for not being able to afford promotion that's nonsense. We can afford it but would we survive in EFL one. Not a cat in hells chance with the vast majority of our current squad IMObehind the goals wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 11:44 am Maybe the Club can't afford promotion it would need a completely new squad to compete in league 1, it just looked half arsed last night and now Wild has got his excuse ready for the next home match blame the pitch.

What in last night's game are you putting down to the pitch? Their second goal he ran from his own half and I don't recall us getting a bad bounce / the ball sticking in mud.32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 10:47 am Put our strongest team out and we win that game. Saw Paul Hornby speaking to Pete Wild pre game; makes you think doesn’t it. Thinking of contacting the FA to report us for throwing gamesbehind the goals wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 11:44 am Maybe the Club can't afford promotion it would need a completely new squad to compete in league 1, it just looked half arsed last night and now Wild has got his excuse ready for the next home match blame the pitch.
Re: Barrow v Forest Green Rovers, match thread
I was upset and disappointed when I saw the result last night, but taking a step back to reflect, I would not want to be promoted and then 'do a carlisle'. We are learning about players, consolidating on and off the pitch, so IMO the result probably confirms that we are not ready to be genuine contenders.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 11:55 am As for not being able to afford promotion that's nonsense. Of course, we should be striving to get as many points as possible and, as Wild has said, "see where it takes us". But, realistically, a good outcome for the season would be the playoffs, which would attract large crowds and bring in money, even if we fall at that hurdle. I would be very disappointed if we slip out of the playoff places, so lots to play for.

Re: Barrow v Forest Green Rovers, match thread
I’ve said it for long enough now, it’s absolutely baffling why White is being picked to start games at HS, even more baffling when we are playing a team like FGR. The opposition managers must look at that team selection and rub their hands together. From the moment that game kicked off we should have been at them….instead we get sideways and backwards passing. Fantastic strike by Stockton but that aside it was probably our worst performance of the season over the 90 minutes.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
