I think that is what we used to call tongue-in-cheek. Not sure you can say it anymore and you may get serious jail time even if they have to let proper criminals out.Outcast wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 4:13 pmGood grief.Cromwell58 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:49 am

Great tie for the club financially and for the players getting to play in a great stadium , not so for the fans. 1000 on a Tuesday/Wednesday would be a fantastic effort. Can't believe some people think we can turn them over

Living in Darlington, I couldn't help wishing that Barrow and Wimbledon could swap opponents. Much easier for both sets of fans!ossickbluebird wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 6:02 pm Great tie for the club financially and for the players getting to play in a great stadium , not so for the fans. 1000 on a Tuesday/Wednesday would be a fantastic effort. Regarding the prospects of us winning, I agree it is very unlikely but stranger things have happened. A wondrous strike from Garner in the first half then a series of acrobatic saves from Farman, plus blocks from Canavan, Vassell and co, shots rattling off the woodwork and a 'goal' ruled out after the assistant flags for something only he/she saw and shock is very much on the cards.

Re: Tonight's League (Carabao) Cup Draw
Just for reference. When Chelsea played AFC Wimbledon last season in the Carabao the attendance was 37790.
Assuming a gate of 30000 at a knock down price of £20 per ticket, then a 45% share of the gate would yield about £270k before taxes etc.
However, I’m not sure about how season ticket holders would be treated for gate receipt purposes as I think Chelsea include Carabao Cup games within the packaged price.
Whatever, it will be a very valuable contribution to finances.

Fanzone Fan, McMark, Hadrian, Wintergreen . . . well spotted! I don't personally go in for signposting a dry crack with an emoji thingy. To me, it's a bit like putting a sign above a chair that says "this is a chair". If they don't get it then they don't get it . . .
I guess my original post was a tad pessimistic when writing off our chances at Stamford Bridge. I suppose, on reflection, this gloomy outlook is driven by my memories of the last time we played at Stamford Bridge in 1948. This was an FA Cup tie and we lost 5-0. I was only a young fella of 24 at the time and the scars from travelling all that way to witness that hammering have obviously never really left me, thus leading me to write off our chances this time around. But I take the point that the occasion and the income will be very welcome.

So under the fixture section on the club website it's says the Chelsea game is on Tuesday 17th September. Has this definitely been confirmed now? I need to know the date is correct so I can sort time off work ect

So you were 24 years old in 1948, 76 years ago, making you 100 years young today - trust you received a congratulatory Card from King Charles. Given you have a fantastic memory for details, what did you think of our Performance that day?pjdaly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 7:49 pmFanzone Fan, McMark, Hadrian, Wintergreen . . . well spotted! Re: Tonight's League (Carabao) Cup Draw
I think the game will now be played in the week beginning 16th Sept as Chelsea were not drawn against one of the 4 Champion League teams who will be playing their matches on the week beginning 23rd Sept. Whether its on the 17th or Wednesday 18th will really be now down to Sky. Barrow might be one of their main live games (not to be confused with the other "live" games that are on Sky+). If they are a main live game it could be the Tuesday or the Wednesday. Don't take that as a given from me that's just the way I think it might work out.kenny lowe fan club wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 8:14 pm So under the fixture section on the club website it's says the Chelsea game is on Tuesday 17th September. Say It Again Sam . . . . . to answer your question, no, I'm pleased to say I never received any card from him (though one from Diana would have been welcome had she still been with us). However there was a message on the mat from my pet spaniel so I don't know if that counts.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 8:25 pm So you were 24 years old in 1948, 76 years ago, making you 100 years young today - trust you received a congratulatory Card from King Charles. What did I think of our performance that day? It definitely wasn't a royal occasion (once again, no acknowledgement from the King to congratulate little Barrow on even making it to the 3rd round) and there was definitely no variety as it only comprised picking the ball out of the back of the net followed by picking the ball out of the back of the net followed by picking the ball out of the back of the net . . . you get my drift . . .
I do remember thinking all five goals by Chelsea followed clear fouls on Barrow players which went unpunished. But this wasn't too surprising as the referee was Strainge (to understand that, look very closely at those excellent paper cuttings you yourself have submitted for the 'When Barrow Played Chelsea' thread.)
Oh and by the way, did I say those paper cuttings were excellent. AMAZING THAT YOU HAVE THESE AS THEY SEEM PRICELESS AFC ARCHIVE MATERIAL TO ME . . . . .

From my great Dad's football (and cricket) scrapbook - he played for Barrow for several post-War years.pjdaly wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:25 amSay It Again Sam . . . . . to answer your question, no, I'm pleased to say I never received any card from him (though one from Diana would have been welcome had she still been with us). Our Secretary Anthony Wright was interviewed on BBC London on Thursday night to give his reaction to the draw.
