The Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985 prevents:-
Drunken entry into a football ground (which, in practice, to be an arrestable offence includes disorderly behaviour);
the consumption of alcohol within view of the playing area including, during the restricted period (15 minutes before the start of the event to 15 minutes after the end of the event), rooms within the ground from which the event may be directly viewed;
the consumption of alcohol on certain coaches, trains and motor vehicles travelling to a designated football match;
the possession of fireworks or flares.
The Act applies to the following sporting events:-
Association football matches in which one or both of the participating teams represents a club which is for the time being a member (whether a full or associate member) of the Football League, the Football Association Premier League, the Football Conference National Division, the Scottish Football League or Welsh Premier League, or represents a country or territory.
Association football matches in competition the Football association Cup (other than in the preliminary or qualifying round).
The Act only applies in England and Wales.
Yeah, but stilltheman asked some lads down a working men's club and they said they'd rather drink on the terrace. And that's all that matters.
Yes your quite right..

A little off topic but
It's illegal to exceed the speed limit,but people do it.
Guess it's the risk that people take. With speeding the potential is to loose your licence and be banned from driving, drinking in a football stadium above a certain level is illegal,if your caught it's a football banning order . Your choice ! Presumably club fined also

stilltheman wrote:again sensible stewarding needed. if playing wrexham or york or other sides likely to come through giving it the large one and causing nuisance then no ale in ground. if boreham wood or colwyn bay roll in to town youve got little chance of disorder and club should try to up takings from punters by selling drink out of the tent by the crossbar. was in preston street on saturday and asked a few why they dont go holker st. sat afternoon is drinking time away from wife and kids. graft at work all week want to escape the daily grind with a few cold ones on the afternoon. drinking on terrace would entice these people out of the pubs and clubs and into the soccer ground. make cash on the extra gate and then the refreshments they buy while watching the game. win win. really think cassons should give it some thought.
I do hope that you're not "giving it the large one" in Preston Street young man, less you'll be asked not to come back (by order of the committee)

It is allowed in leagues below the National league, but not in Barrow's league and above.

Can people seriously not go 45 minutes without a drink? I know people like to have a few beers on a saturday attending a game but most normal people manage to stay dry for the 90 minutes!

Most normal people can go without food for 90 minutes, but there'd be uproar if all the burger vans were closed down...

Eating burgers in Holker Street aint illegal Steve!
The argument is [SwearFilter], i'd bet there would be no increase in attendance if we had beer on the terrace.

Didn't say it was. Merely playing devils advocate, the argument against drinking shouldn't be "normal people can go without it so there's no need for it"... I don't drink at home games anyway.

Somebody eating burgers on the terraces won't end up with them being an absolute arsehole, annoying to everyone around them and then kicking off when they are asked to leave.

Obviously a bit of a vested interest in this one for me but... Enquired about Student Season Tickets and been told that they've no plans to produce them at the moment.
Bit of a shame IMO, they're happy to sell match day tickets in five guises (Adult, Concession, Student, Under 11, 11-17), but you can only buy season tickets for four of the categories (excluding Student).
I think the reason they won't produce them is because they don't think anyone would buy one, which is a bit daft and typical of the clubs refusal to speculate to accumulate. Happy to take the plunge with [SwearFilter] knows how many polos that can be seen from space but not something like this which could be incorporated with some marketing around the colleges/apprentices and perhaps boost sales and attendance (especially considering there isn't any specific additional outlay getting them produced.

Agree with Ste re student tickets, or at least students and apprentice tickets. Wouldn't it be better if someone actually went into BAE or College when apprentices start and handed out some flyers with the info? Exchange the flyer for a free drink? Cheaper ST and tickets? Universities in larger cities do this, you have a large captive audience at BAE, why not? There's a whole range of folk get the train to college at Lancaster, how hard can it be to advertise? Really boils me this, we waste the opportunity again and again.
The club don't get any increased revenue from pricing this way anyway, no matter how much people on here will moan. A lot of your average 18-22's, now not being a) Paid for by parents or b) Cheaper under 18 will do one of 2 things
1) Keep pretending to be U18 till they look like a member of ZZ Top
2) Rarely go or only turn out for the big games.

Agree with this re student tickets hope the club can do something even if it means being slightly delayed then promote it in the colleges of Barrow and amongst those doing appendices - some thinking outside the box required
Think all kids of certain age should be free or maybe a junior bluebirds club that costs say £5 a season and you get free admission and pre match fun and games thrown in - get it done now before we get to summer holidays

Brought fits of laughter that zz top reference Herbie, your right in what your saying. Think it will be mostly option two though!
I think Emma had about a week before the season tickets were announced hardly enough time to get her own ideas together let alone bounce other peoples ideas around and it shows! Like most things off the pitch it's either rushed through on a whim or it simply gets put on the back burner and left to boil dry!
Think it would be a fantastic opportunity for Emma to maybe through the forum or by other means ask the supporters in what avenues they would like to see the club go down in regards to attracting even more people into parting with their hard earned cash not only for season tickets but also merchandise and corporate events.
It sadly looks like opportunities on the season ticket front will.once again missed unless something happens very quickly.
