Many years ago, there were proper heavy wooden gates on that entrance. I remember them vividly.. I also remember them being blown off by a student from BGS who had just discovered how to make nitro glycerine.

Jumping John Wilson :D
Haven't heard John or his nickname mentioned for years! :D

He was a roadie for the first band I ever played for in the early '70s - Ray Turner on Vocals, Alan Armer & Phil Nelson on Guitars, Nigel 'Merlin' Hall (RIP) on Drums and my good self on Bass. He would fix our broken amps and attend to any electrical faults with our guitars. He was also our chief 'Chemist' but I can't provide any more details on this ;)

On our numerous visits to his home in Rating Lane, we were always welcomed with John's comment: "Coffee or ....."? His kitchen was like a flipping Chemistry Lab! He later went onto University and I hadn't heard his name mentioned for years, up until now. A great lad. A Maverick, shall we say :D

It could well have been Ray Turner wot dun it, rather than John. One memorable day I was round at Ray's and we went into the kitchen where he showed me something he'd discovered. he promptly created an impressive explosion by mixing stuff up up in a milk bottle in the kitchen sink. :skill:

How's the development going? Any updates, news or pictures?

Would imagine it a straight forward build if the stands are "temporary" and reasonably mobile?

Be great to see a four sided set up again in the future... Not too distant mind, waited half my life just to see barrow in the football league, might be brown bread before the steelworks end is developed!!

Yes they are Temporary type of stands but there's more working prepping than you might think, Remove & rebuild the perimeter of the stadium wall & dig out & renew concrete sections etc etc

Temporary but designed to last a decade or more as far as im aware.

There's drainage work to do as well, think the Council are waiting on a response from United Utilities before approval of the developments can be given.

Not sure why but at the moment we have been asked to not post any pictures….but if you let me know your e-mail address I suppose I can pass on photos that way. If not I’m sure I’ll be getting told not to!
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Who is 'we' Ian? The GMV?

I've not read or heard anything anywhere about not posting up pictures of the ground developments; the works are plainly visible to anyone from the public highway. And right way up!

Yes, on the GMV thread, or anywhere mate. There must be a reason so…
