Tranmere Rovers FC (H) match thread
Re: Tranmere Rovers FC (H) match thread
At least our pitch was playable there were 4 league 2 games called off.
Re: Tranmere Rovers FC (H) match thread
I'm afraid I disagree I think proctor is far more mobile and aggressive than aqua, people keep saying he's only young but he's 23 , so I can't see him getting anymore mobile or aggressive, but I hope he proves me wrong.Hawcoat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 11:45 am Enjoyed it yesterday bar the last 5 mins or so. Thought mazeed played well first time I've seen him play properly. Disagree on Proctor playing well he is a carthorse I'm afraid finding that mobile big man to go alongside Whitfield (hopefully) and Telford will be a priority for next season. I do like acquiah he's still a little raw but worth continuing with.

Interesting last day fixtures if the same top four as now.
Barrow v Mansfield
Wrexham v Sockport

Re: Tranmere Rovers FC (H) match thread
I see certain names getting a lot of mentions so I think I'll throw in one who I don't think has been name-spotted in this thread . . . George Ray. Against a very useful and very lively Tranmere he was once again very good in his defensive role. Nothing new there. However, I have to mention the two or three long raking diagonal balls that he swept out towards Newby on the left flank in the second period. I think the late, great Colin Appleton would have purred over those majestic deliveries bringing the winger into play.
As for Campbell, well, a classy player providing a classy winner. Such quality, the way he left power on the shelf and just stroked it carefully and almost casually into the side of the net, almost in the manner the gifted Gerson did when scoring for Brazil in the 1970 World Cup Final. We have some quality with Campbell and Spence. Mazeed Ngumbo also stood out with his ease on the ball.
This was big test for Barrow . . . would they show they had the character to get back up again after the Wrexham match, against the form side in the league? They passed the test with flying colours. Very good indeed.

I thought Feely wasn't his best yesterday but he hasn't been in the squad much. Spence and Campbell were fantastic and must have ran miles ! Proctors best game for me, very aggressive and some very neat passes (shame hes had injuries) and a lot of people around me were surprised he got taken off. Acquah is hit and miss but shows signs of a good player and definitely ahead of Garner. Felt sorry for Telford, hes a goal scorer but we don't put loads of crosses into the box for a goal pocher and he didn't even get on but this game for me didn't suit his style of play.
Just be interesting if no clubs come sniffing around now and the club hold firm.

Agree with all of this. Ray was in the thick of it yesterday and the way he calmly played the ball away from within a bunch of opposition players on several occasions was great to watch. And I agree that this was a big test after Wrexham. Adkins has made Tranmere much more resilient defensively. They actually defended with a lot of discipline for the first 80 minutes and it did take a moment of quality to break the deadlock. But Newby was given far to much space and time to set up Campbell, sweet as his strike was.pjdaly wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 11:59 am I see certain names getting a lot of mentions so I think I'll throw in one who I don't think has been name-spotted in this thread . . . Also a word for Wild. His substitutions were well timed. Tranmere had become comfortable defending, but as soon as Acquah came on he really put himself about and started to disrupt Tranmere again.

Ray has been a revelation this season but his upturn in form came about in early 2023 imo The change in formation and playing him in the middle of a back 3 has been the making of him.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:01 pmAgree with all of this. Agree with this, he has been exceptionally good. He was upstaged a little by McClelland 2022/23, but can’t help thinking that this season Chester Ray and Canavan have been our bedrock for success so far.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:12 pmRay has been a revelation this season but his upturn in form came about in early 2023 imo The change in formation and playing him in the middle of a back 3 has been the making of him.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:01 pm

On yesterdays RC interview, Pete Wild said everything about Barrow was realistic.pjdaly wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 11:59 am I see certain names getting a lot of mentions so I think I'll throw in one who I don't think has been name-spotted in this thread . . . Then, a few hours later, a Barrow player/goal is compared to a World Cup winning Brazilian international with 85 caps!!!
Aye, OK.

Exactly, I too thought Proctor had one of his better games.olefogey wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 5:49 pmThere was me thinking Proctor had one of his better games, particularly in terms of link-up play, some clever passes, and closing people down. Ah well, just shows how opinions differ!SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 5:38 pm Good performance, we deserved to win, but can someone please tell me what Proctor brings to the team? If you say pretty much nothing (ditto Garner) you're spot on IMO. Acquah and Telford should always be ahead of him in the pecking order. I thought Mazeed was excellent, considering he hasn't had much game time.
Re: Tranmere Rovers FC (H) match thread
A quick google search finds arsenal referred to him as a centre back and barrow called him a left back. Definitely the most unnatural left back I’ve seen in a barrow shirt.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 6:19 pmHe was signed as a left back and played left wing back whilst on loan at Crawley from Arsenal
Re: Tranmere Rovers FC (H) match thread
A really good win yesterday against an impressive Tranmere side. Our power, strength and energy in the middle of the field puts us way above most other teams in this league and one of these midfield players could win man of the match ever week. Clubs from higher divisions must be watching Campbell and Spence in particular the signing of these two has been a fantastic boost for the team and great credit is due to the staff behind the scenes who achieved these fantastic signings. This central midfield, a superb central defensive trio and an unbelievable team spirit makes us one of the hardest teams to beat in division two. We'll done Pete Wild and his backroom staff. Long may it continue, l have waited over fifty-five years to see this happen again, come on Barrow, make an old man very happy !
