BB - I presume you are asking why it's there?
In 1967 I think it was Barrow played and won a match on a Friday night and went top of the old 3rd Division (Now League 1), the other teams at the top played the next day and won so we dropped back down but Barrow were actually top for just under 24 hours - our highest ever position. On the Friday night we went top someone daubed the slogan you mention on the wall where it sounds like its now been resurrected. Over the course of time the slogan became less visible and it may have been cleaned off but has been recently revived. The slogan has been synonmous with amongst us since then as we see it when going to the ground and reminds us of the time we were actualy top of the old 3rd Division even if it was for less than 24 hours. I think a few people on here know more info than the above such as the artist who commisioned this glorious piece of work 40 odd years ago.

Here's a photo of the 1968 original plus a couple that I took this very afternoon of the new artwork. A would-be [SwearFilter] has been very busy. I guess one of the new ones is from almost the same spot as the original. Unfortunately someone stuck a lampost in the way. I did phone the Highways department this afternoon and asked if someone would come and temporarily remove the obstruction so that I could get a clean shot. Alas, they refused. And I pay my council taxes on time too.

I'm shocked to see that my credible reference to the artist Pi$$arro has been blocked by the swear-filter above. Are we not allowed to mention renowned artists?

Amateurish. They could have at least put the 3rd like the original.

There was also painted on that wall, Hammersmith End and Putney Boot Boys after the visit of Fulham. Im almost certain there was something about Johnny Haynes as well, but cant remember what that was.

Me thinks this artist has been busy as Ive noticed a couple more Barrow slogans near the railway line around the Salthouse area. I'll have a proper look and report back in a couple of days. Noticed the one being discussed this morning and thought it wonderful to see! I'd like to see welcome to Barrow - home of the bluebirds or similar daubed near the railway line as well if whoever is doing the artwork takes requests!
