On-Loan OR Local?

Throwing so many on-loan players straight into the team is now culminating in drastic results IMO.

These lads probably haven't had the time to find out the names of their fellow team mates never mind the tactics or game plan of the team. I realise financial restraints are the key issue. And I also realise many on-loan players have provided excellent service to the club in recent seasons. However, maybe the arrival of so many 'borrowed' players has now taken its toil. Is now the time for local players to be given the chance?

Everyone remembers Man City recently swooping to sign keeper Curtis Anderson from Blackpool after the Seasiders had spotted him playing for Crooklands Casuals. And I'm sure I read somewhere that Blackpool have quite a few other young Barrovians in their ranks.

So one has to ask the question: Why are these future stars being over-looked by Barrow AFC? - Hasn't Neil Doherty initiated some kind of Youth Policy at the club?

Neil does have the youth squad on the go, but the club need to make the investment to take the kids on and develop them into the next generation of Barrow players. This currently is not happening, instead the kids are being sought out by bigger teams, the ones that have the infrastructure and the money that we don't.

Nothing would be greater than having some good locals in the team, everyone knows this, but until the club can afford to invest in the next level of coaches that the young kids need then it'll never happen. And then the club need to be able to afford to put the lads on contracts, again we can't afford that either.

I know that kids as young as nine are being picked up several nights a week and taken to the likes of Everton for training. Can we compete with that?

Correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying that Neil and the club are basically providing a 'Feeder' system for other teams!

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying there is talented youth in the area, and we as a club are not capitalising on it due to finance issues. The youths then leave for other clubs.

The FA are running a grant scheme and will award 8 clubs from level 5-7 £50k to help develop and improve facilities.

I really hope the club are aware of this and can set some time aside to put an application forward to help with youth development in the area. This could be something that the club go for and a strong case for it is the fact that good young footballers are going elsewhere. Could this be something that Barrow could use for development of youngsters with Barrow?

When they say Steps 5 to 7, don't the FA mean lower levels of the game? (Holker Old Boys are Step 6, for example.)

That won't be a problem, the other players don't know about tactics or game plan ... we'd better get someone in who can tell em.

Ahh, yes, well I've got that wrong then- We are step 5 of the national football pyramid, but step 1 of the non league pyramid, so not eligible.

Steps of a ladder. Levels of a pyramid.

Ladders can be pyramid shaped at the bottom.

Firstly, Neil Doherty no longer works from Barrow AFC he has moved to an office on walney also sharing this office is Gill who used to run the study center, I know why Gill has moved but why has Neil Doherty moved, whats the story on this!
Second, we have three on loan one Anderson has been outstanding, Jackson if given the chance could also be an asset, the third loanee Overson is there for cover, as far as locals, would the locals be prepared to give up their jobs to play football full time because thats what they would have to do, I dont think so so as lets give up the local debate its just not on.

Better than that Charlie, we only actually have 3 loan players on the books,
1 on loan from Bradford for a month who I doubt we will be paying, and 2 on loan from burnley for 6months who we will be paying a very small percentage of wages too.

Infact it's one of the own players who was my man of the match for both home games this season, Tom Anderson

Local to our training base = from Rochdale.

Plus, training with a big name club, at a young age, doesn't always lead to future stardom. IIRC Mike Kewley, Nicky Beach, Ross Liddicott, Sean Paterson and more all had flirtations with big teams, as youngsters.
