Assuming we get relegated - who would you keep next season

For all things Barrow AFC. Keep discussions civil and fair, we're all Barrow aren't we!

Assuming we get relegated - who would you keep next season

Post by Mark Johnson » Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:04 pm

I would probably try to keep Hurst, Pearson, Owen, Skelts, Baker, Hunter, Boyes.

Obviously, whether they'd want to stay or not is a different question.

If we kept the above, we'd probably need to sign on 3 defenders, 2 midfielders, 2 wingers and 2 strikers.

Bayliss' (if still here himself) priority MUST be a couple of strong experienced (but not past it) centre backs.

Big overhaul, new chapter.

Hurst, Skelts, Rudders. And one from Harvey or Baker

I think BSN is Rudders' level and I think he could become a good asset.

Hurst, Skelton, Harvey, Owen, Baker, Boyes, Pearson - the rest can shift.

That's a solid nucleus to the squad to build on and sustain in the BSN. I think we're desperate for a new right full-back. Rutherford is too inconsistent for me. Hessey, I don't think there is much else to him than a rocket of a left foot which occasionally sprays a pinpoint 60-yard pass. The others, simply not good enough.

Pointless question really as most wont want to come back, but some may as they cant get better clubs, Boyes already knows he is joining a league club.

Further to what Popsider says,i heard today a player has already verbally agreed a deal with a club and had a bust-up on Tuesday over his lack of effort.

I presume if we are relegated (and even if we are not)we will probably go part-time therefore, presuming they are all full time players at the moment who out of the squad would go part-time with Barrow next season. I know some will say so what they are no good as full timers but that's not the point. Will anyone of the present squad be prepared to go part time if we wanted them next season?

As long as the players were prepared to take hefty pay cuts and go part time, there aren't many I'd be desperate to see the back of.

It will be interesting to see what happens to many of them in the summer. Some will have options but most will be faced with having to take a pay cut no matter whose shirt they pull on next season.

As I alluded to in my post. Many of them won't have a choice.

How many of our players can realistically hope to be performing in BSP or higher again next season? I can think of 4 or 5. The rest, are screwed because they gravy train has hit the buffers.

Realistically there isnt many that would have offers from bsp next year. Boyes, hurst, owen (chester only), DL Rowe, ARH, and maybe big G Hunts. The rest will be in conf north next season with us or without us.

Build a side of promising youngsters around the experience of Skelton, Hessey, Hunter and Hurst - if they will stay. Ruthers, Owen, Harvey, Baker, Pearson could do a job at BSN level, but they may have hopes of better things.
