Just had a nightmarish flashback of visiting Frickley Athletic, harrowing.

Where's the worst place you've visited supporting this club of ours?

Goole & a bad, bad meeting with the Golligans (Gooliegans?) who were banned from their own ground but still managed to throw bricks over the away end at us from outside their ground & attack us as we left - the police weren't much help to the away support either.

A close second had to be Rothrham in the FA cup with the police & supporters of that club not much better than we found at Goole.

Where's the worst place you've visited supporting this club of ours?

Worst ground? Or worst experience? Or just worst town? You do get to see some pretty mundane towns/villages/suburbs watching football at our level. Bishop Auckland? Weathered old Geordies wheeling a barrow full of rust down the road ("Way aye man, don't 'e be throwin' that away, bloody good rust, that."). Then there's all those uniformly dull outlying London commuter stops we got when in Conference National: Dartford, Grays spring to mind; or Crawley, Stevenage, anywhere like that where the town centre has exactly the same shops as every other town centre and you have to walk two miles to get to the ground.

Probably easier to name the decent or interesting places: Bath, Oxford, Cambridge, Lewes, Matlock, Luton: Luton!? everyone says Luton is a s#!thole; but at least it's a lively s#!thole, going way back Durham, Whitby. Not that we see much of any these places of course, just the inside of the local Wetherspoons and the walk to the ground!

May not have been the worst, but do remember having my rollicks almost frozen off one Tuesday night at Frickley (or was it Emley? going to have to give this some more thought) sometime in the early 1990s.

Bishop Auckland for me lol - scary toilets behind the main stand at their old ground & they turned the flood lights off before the end of the game i also remember bish & Hume falling out with each out during the game and only making up in the club house after the game with a big hug

Or it could be going to Whitley Bay for the FA Cup 2nd round, travelling up the coast on the train, taking about 197 hours to get to Carlisle stopping at every station to let every man and his sheep on, only to get there and the game to be called off coz there was a twig overhanging the ground that might have blown off. Then coming back and all the trains being cancelled coz of snow, stranded at Carlisle station. Had to go and get drunk.

Atherstone was nice..

Generally find something to like in most grounds, the one that utterly depressed me last season was Vauxhall. Off all he 'social club in the middle of nowhere' grounds that was the worst.

Gateshead was pesh as well, except for that Trophy replay

Ferryhill Athletic ( FA Cup 80's ? ) Seem to remember that the pitch was in the middle of a field and that we spent part of the game being ' terrorised ' by a couple of 10 year olds armed with twigs - bless ! Happy days

Yeovil, for a Conference game at their old ground a week after we'd drawn there in a Trophy match (then beaten them on a wild, windy night at Holker Street).

The Somerset Constabulary had anticipated trouble at the game (the local yokels had an endearing habit of lobbing bricks from outside the ground into the away end) and had turned out en masse. You name it, it was there; horses, dogs, riot gear, the full works.

There were about a dozen or so Barrow supporters there!

On arrival at the ground one of the several plods watching the away turnstiles (needless to say, we were segregated) asked me how many of us there were. I told him four. Four coaches? No, four people; we came by car.

During the match the hardy handful of Barrovians were hemmed in by a hefty police presence either side of us, which only served to give the local yokels a smaller target to aim their bricks at. Then, at the end of the game we were locked in for quite a while, before being led out via the touchline and the stand. In the depths of the stand our police escort leading us turned right. We turned left; we'd spotted the bar. By then, though, plod command had finally realised that they might have just over-policed the game, and let us enjoy a much-needed pint.

Agree with all the above but the worst experience for me was North Shields away in the FA Cup circa 1982. Took the lead with Cowps finest goal ever, lost 2-1 right at the death and drove all the way home in silence.
