Re: Christmas Games
Be a disaster for us financially if NYD and the Barnsley game are played behind closed doors; let’s hope it doesn’t come to that

Re: Christmas Games
Looking at the forecasts and progression of Omicron at the moment, best guess is that infections will peak sometime in January and start to fall by the end of the month. Its also becoming apparent that whilst the variant is highly transmissible that (especially in a fully vaccinated population) the impact of symptoms and on admissions and deaths is lower.
I suspect we'll be lucky to see a game for the next few weeks, possibly even a small break in the schedule. Dont think its time to start looking at PPG yet though by any means. Inevitably we are going to have another very packed end to the season.
This is probably going to remain a cyclical issue for the EFL for a few years, albeit diminishing. Science suggests that each variant however transmissible will have a reduced medical effect overall. At some point (not this season ) the footballing authorities will have to make to make a decision, subject to vaccination status, as to when sporting events do not have to be cancelled because of COVID. Ultimately this will mean allowing clubs to decide whether to play COVID positive players or not. We should bear in mind of course that although the Leagues are currently being hit hard by infections, very few of those affected are ill and many are asymptomatic. The problems caused are more logistical than medical as a mandatory self-isolation period has to be observed.
Was hoping to see Oldham, Bradford and Barnsley games over the Xmas period. I'll be happy if I one of those actually happens.

Re: Christmas Games
Two thirds of yesterday's League 2 games were off, so based on that the odds are one in three that any given game will be on. Of course the situation may get worse in the next week, so one in three is perhaps optimistic.

Re: Christmas Games
With the Omicron variant decimating the country I think all sport should be cancelled, league tables decided by PPG and we go into a permanent lockdown until the disease has gone forever.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Rick Parry is saying he cannot see a firebreak taking place so could be chaos back end of the season getting games rearranged if a lot fall foul over xmas

Re: Christmas Games
He's gambling on the disruption being swift and indiscriminate. The EFL can probably afford to lose a few weeks and then wave the stick at clubs to get their fixtures played. As you say - a frantic end to the season.
Problems will come for the EFL if either the current level of infections peak later and for longer than expected, or if for no fault of their own, one or two teams fall significantly in arrears in games played.

Re: Christmas Games
A couple of boxing day games in league two already called off.
Re: Christmas Games
A firebreak for football would be pointless. The virus is mainly spreading due to behaviour of the general population, rather than by football teams meeting each other. You might think that employees of football clubs (whether players or support staff) might take more care, but apparently not.
And a firebreak would cause even more congestion at the end of the season.
