That's an enjoyable listen though I would disagree with Pete Wild's claim that "everybody in Barrow supports Barrow". I think Pete means the town itself when he says that, rather than the soccer (or the rugby). Unfortunately I have known, and still know, far too many people who not only live here but were born here and yet seem to take a pleasure in monstering it. I myself feel very fortunate to have lived my life here, despite the fact that it obviously has its problems and difficulties. That old chestnut – which Pete alludes to – about being a long way out is now a bonus in some ways. With all the strange things going on in this country and in this world I am very happy to be stuck away at the end of this longest cul-de-sac, thank you very much. It's certainly not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it's "perfecter" than a lot of places.

People who run Barrow (and us in the wider area across the duddon estuary) down want to go and have a look up north. Don't tell me it's not scores better than the likes of Whitehaven or Workington. Once listened to a manager at BAE Systems who said that it was sometimes a hard sell to get workers to come to Barrow, but once they were here they tended to stay in the area, even when they retired.
You're never far from the sea and the Lakes are just over half an hour away.
Yes every town has its problems at the moment as does Barrow, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.
