Is it doom and gloom ?

Post by LCBAFC40 » Wed Feb 18, 2026 9:39 am

Went to bed annoyed and woke up annoyed after the result last night but I predicted it as we rarely beat Harrogate and they are picking up points. Think it was more the only actual chace they had was from that back pass! We had several chances and a couple of those we should be scoring and we didn't even hit the target. We are so poor in front of goal and even Ross who works his socks off is missing chances every week.
Personally I thought we defended well, it was one very poor decision that cost us the game but up front it wasn't working. Kicking long balls up to Ross for what ? No one near him but things improved after the substitutions although I didn't agree with the Mahoney change, he [SwearFilter] around too much.
This screams games are going to be 1-0 but to ever scores first!
Got to say I'm surprised Powel hasn't got a match under the new manager, he'd definitely take on the defence more than Newby does.
Fleetwood away then Gillingham at home - both inconsistent with results so who knows but I think even though we have games in hand I think we can no longer rely on teams below us losing esp after last nights results.
Shrewsbury are winning every week now
Harrogate 7 points from 9
Newport winning convincingly at Salford
Tough games for all the bottom teams this weekend but I fear if we drop in bottom 2 we won't get back out so we just need to grind out results.
Manager has had a week with players and there have been improvements so only time will tell now - 15 to go !

On another note the Carlisle scout was at Barrow again (seen him a few times) can only be here looking at Stanway or McCann 🤣

As supporters hope springs eternal until there is no glimmer of hope left.

This season has just been absolutely awful the recruitment was an absolute disgrace the only good we got was Smith , McCann , Gordon and rose

I can’t wait for these 15 games to be over and hopefully at the end of them we are still in the football league if by some miracle we are then this summer we need to shift the shit out
(lock Iain Wood in a curboard) and actually get some decent league players in whether that will be with Dino or not

Yes it is all doom and gloom because we all saw this coming at the end of last season and low and behold here we are fighting for our EFL survival. Recruitment recruitment. Here’s a list, tell me what stands out as the obvious and pretty much a repeat of last season

https://www.espn.co.uk/football/stats/_/league/eng.4

The only positive is a third of the season to rescue it but we have to start picking up wins!!
Still searching for the Young Soul Rebels

How many goals has Gordon got? He gets away with a lot because he does a lot of running (which is genuinely great but….)

I like Josh Gordon but he's never been prolific, misses too many chances and this is his level. If he had a big striker alongside him he'd be a lot better but he ends up frustrated and giving silly fouls away. Rose is a better footballer but again needs support - maybe when Fletcher is fit again he will go up there as he has a bit of height and presence and was more of a threat there than anyone else was.

Hemmings and Walker came with a reputation of being injured a lot and have carried that on, Healey was another a massive gamble that didn't work and Cameron was nowhere near up to it.
Oh for Andy Cook who scored two last night for Grimsby against Walsall and was a menace all night in the air and on the ground despite being 35, legs 'may have gone' but if we had have signed him my money would be on us staying stay up...

And of our remaining games, how many do we realistically feel we can win? We have 45 points up for grabs and realistically need a minimum of 20-25 points to stay up. I look at our fixtures and currently find it difficult to see us getting more than 12-15.

Play like Tuesday night & we'll struggle to win 2 or 3 more games, with a handful of draws maybe.
