Are we really any good?
Most weeks, everyone seems to have the opinion that our opponents were poor, we should have won, we played great football etc. But really, we cant be that good if were joint bottom of the league.
Just because we can knock a ball about between our midfielders doesnt make us a good team. It also seems that we have to play 5 in midfield as otherwise we get seriously outnumbered in the middle of the park, that even happens when we have 5 in midfield.
Im having serious concerns about our ability to stay in this league. Defensively were clearly poor, i like hessey but think he needs a shot at centre back. In fact, i like most of our players, but for some reason it really isnt working.
Id like to see Owen back in the first 11 soon to see what a difference he can make.
Compared to last year I think we miss Cook, who could cause problems in the air, and more so a Bolland who organised the defence.

We're no great shakes we all know that and yes we need to strengthen in Jan but i honestly think there are four worst teams in the league than Barrow this season.

Tony keen did not say he wanted us relegated, all he said was the conference is a graveyard league and the club needs to get out of it, preferably going up.
The rag twisted it, made it sound like he said they can't afford to be here and that the board want us relegated.
Go ask tony Friday night, he will be happy to tell you himself as he told everyone who was at the meet the board night earlier in the season!!

Re: Are we really any good?
Well, I've seen every home game this season and there aint been any opposition that's turned up and totally dominated us (say, like Torquay did in that night game a few seasons back when they pinged it around and had us chasing shadows for 90 minutes)32mile_cul-de-sac wrote:We're no great shakes we all know that and yes we need to strengthen in Jan but i honestly think there are four worst teams in the league than Barrow this season.
We've had keepers save everything thats been thrown at them that would have been 3 or 4 goals in any other game. Our conceding of soft goals has cost us - especially FGR equalliser and that in itself was a microcosm of our home form to date, a draw that should have been a win (and losses that should have been draws).
On our day, with the ball on the deck we can match anyone and play good football, but we do revert to type and make the opposition look better than what they actually are.

That's the problem though isn't it? I hear it all the time at work & it pops' up on here every now & then.......were any of these people actually at the meeting? I know for a fact the people at work who speak to me were not & I'm guessing the people on here who say it weren't either, if they were they they were sat there with a pint glass in either ear.Adam29 wrote:as he told everyone who was at the meet the board night earlier in the season!!
As Adam say's, go & ask TK on Friday what he really said & stop being so [SwearFilter] stupid!!
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Are we really any good?
I don't remember anyone at the start of the season saying we were playing well but we have put in some good performances recently. I agree with snortypig that no one has dominated Barrow at home, and some sides have come away with wins and draws that you could easily say they did not deserve. The team has also put in some recent performances worth watching even if the results were not that good, FGR and the Hyde Trophy game. It is finishing in front of goal that is problem and it always has been, the reluctance to shot when a chance presents itself also adds to that. Other teams just go for it and have a punt and eventually they get a goal. We hang onto too long sometimes let their defence get back in position and then try to cut them open. Against Hyde we cut them open time after time but failed to pull the trigger, so it finished with only 1 goal when it could well have been a lot more.
In the past we have had Walker and another semi-decent striker like Cook along side to bag the goals. Now Boyes is the only real aerial threat and the other goal getters we have on loan, Almond and Jackson, are only chipping in occasionally. The team does stroke it around midfield a lot better not and it is better to watch now but in front of goal we are struggling. Telford failed to score from a handful of chances last night and paid the price, that is usually Barrow.
Because of the poor defence we either need to bolster at the back or start putting them away at the other end to make up for it. We have a good ability to come back when the other side gets in front but it is like they need a reminder, a kick up the pants to get them going. That reminder usually comes in the form of a conceded goal or a harsh ref decision. Overall the team needs a bolster come January and they should be fine.

Excellent, we'll hold you to that - a true Bluebird. We did give Middlesbrough and Sunderland a run for their money at their places so we might surprise you with our passion and fortitude.CardiffCityFan wrote:i actually want to play you lot, seeing as you all talk a good gameDaveBarter wrote: Maybe, but surely you'd want the worse team to win to make it even easier for you.

We'll certainly look back on the 'thrashing' if it occurs, like I'm sure you look back on the West Ham play off earlier in the year. We would then feel somewhere near the same anguish.
