Danny O'Donnell
Re: Danny O'Donnell
Interesting to see that if Chester are promoted they will be staying part-time.

I agree and it will be interesting to see next season because I'm sure he'll be playing for one of the top sides in the league.Reg wrote:If he played for a top side in this division, he would get 25 league goals.

To be fair to the lad, he may not be too far off twenty-five in total this season now that he has got someone to take the weight up front beside him.russell_anderson wrote:I agree and it will be interesting to see next season because I'm sure he'll be playing for one of the top sides in the league.Reg wrote:If he played for a top side in this division, he would get 25 league goals.
Wasn't the received wisdom previously that he would be off in January?

Interesting parallel of sorts to our 'unexpected' promotion five years ago. Chester manager, who incidentally is full-time,says the reason they are staying part-time if promoted is because it has come too quick and the off-field infrastructure is not yet up to BSP standardbarrowfan wrote:Interesting to see that if Chester are promoted they will be staying part-time.

Agreed, he's a great player. Murray for me the only one better I've seen, as tbh I thought Holty was just an aggressive carthorse when I pitched up at Barrow around 2000/2001 or wheneverReg wrote:It's not just about present form for me.
Over the time he has been here, he has scored goals at a decent goals:game ratio given he has largely had to feed off scraps. He's the best finisher we have had for as long as I can remember, he works as hard as any forward I can ever remember us having.
If he had a touch more pace, he'd already be a football league player. He reminds me a lot of Ian Rush in the way he defends from the front and with his composure in front of goal.
If he played for a top side in this division, he would get 25 league goals. When I've seen him play recently, he looked like someone struggling under the burden of playing the lone striker role but his head never seems to drop and he's worked as hard for the team as he always has, despite probably being thoroughly [SwearFilter] off that he typically doesn't get more than half a chance per game.
Definitely the best striker we've had since Holt/Murray and there weren't many before them that I would put in front of him since I started following us.
He could play up to League 1 yet IMO and in a good side he would get 20+ goals a season every season in this league.
As to part time, the thing that worries me most about that road, sensible as it probably is, is the 'manager and his mates' aspect. It tends to depend on whatever area the manager's from. Mind you, Bayles isn't so different now..Are fat, ex league players on good money for part time, any better than young lads with a point to prove, on peanuts full time?
The decision, for me, is between staying a member's and going down, or risking some eegit investing and staying up, unless someone has ransacked the council offices or indeed Kwik Save's old site..never mind part time.
