Drop me a pm of the address & when would be best to collect & I'll try & sort something.

As an aside & an unashmed plug, if anyone has any drives they want laying or general groundwork doing - Barrowabc is your man, he's like a man possesed shifting stuff around - drop him a pm.

Sorted out the First Aid dug out yesterday (Monday) and the rubbish in there was unbelievable----planks of wood, lumps of metal and a heap of flag poles. Obviously been used as a dumping ground. The spiders were massive too.

I am both pleased that you have done this, Holkerbird, and disheartened because it is indicative of the lack of care and pride that has surrounded the old place for too long.
As always, thank you to you and the others who are able to do this sort of thing.

It's a pleasure Nigel as I enjoy it and get great satisfaction in doing something that makes a difference and to walk away from something that is an improvement on how I found it.
Now for all those bloody cigarette ends.

This isn't a plea for more money just an opportunity we thought should be open to forum users or anyone else that might be interested.

As you know, the HSE plywood covering is now unsafe & will be taken down during the summer, we had two options -

1/ Take the plywood down & paint what is underneath - advantage, cheaper option, disadvantage, it'd look not much better than it does now & it'll require re-painting in a couple of years.
2/ Re-clad the whole end in blue or blue & white coated tin sheeting - advantage, look far better, less maintenance, disadvantage, cost!

We decided to go for the cladding as we dont want to make jobs look cheap & temporary if we can help it. The cladding will cost between £800 - £1000 depending how far into each corner we'll be going. How we've worked out that we could do this is by offering to business's, groups or individuals a section of about twenty foot with a plaque about 12"x24" that can either have a company name/logo on or whatever any group or individual wants (within reason :) ) We've asked the BoDs if these plaques can stay there for as long as the HSE remains as it is now & they agreed.
We've only suggested this to a few people so far & we have three companies/individuals willing to pay for their section with another three thinking on it.
As I say this is by no means us pestering anyone for more money as plenty of you have done enough as it is but we felt we should mention it on here just in case someone would want to have a plaque up for whatever reason, one lady wants her plaque in memory of her late husband who was an BAFC supporter for many years so as you can see there is plenty of scope for someone to have a section & plaque in their name or logo.

We have the money to cover whatever could be the shortfall but we just thought the opportunity should be there & made available to others rather than us just asking whoever we think might be interested.

Spirit, how much would each section cost? Just to give people an idea.

Spirit, instead of selling 20ft section of cladding, why not aim to sell the signs to fans and put them right across of the entire width of the HS end cladding (say 100 signs at £15 sign) this would pay for the cladding and sign costs and raise a bit more for the maintenance pot? Just a thought? - a bit like "buy a brick" at other grounds.

just a thought?

Sorry Peter, cant believe I missed out the important bit

We are looking at £100 per twenty foot section (aprrox size) We think that eight to ten plaques would look pretty good & not look like we're sticking them up all over the place.

We were thinking that any groups that frequent the same standing places might want to chip in to have a plaque behind "their spot" with their names on it, five people - 20 notes each & it'll be there for xxxxx amount of years. The plaques will be professionally made & look the part.

I can sort of see the logic Jonty but how much would it cost to make 100 signs? that'd eat away very quickly at any money raised from the £15 per sign I think. As I said in my previous post, we'd quite happily do five names (or perhaps more) per sign to make it more affordable for groups of supporters if it helps. Plenty of options, just ask & we'll try our best to help out.

RE - THE CLADDING,

Another sponsor so thats four sections confirmed today.

I've also been promised another £20 off Dave Vickers to go towards the £ for £ offer, that takes us £160 over the £500.....another £320 in the kitty.

It's looking like about a grand but we're still looking on line & trying to get it cheaper (which we will) It's not just the cladding, it's the screw caps that soon add up & the flashing which also isn't cheap.
Like I say, if we're doing it we dont want it just to look like a make-do type job, thats how the ground has got to the condition it's in now. We would love for people to walk in there on the first pre-season friendly & look at the HSE all re-cladded in blue with 8 or 10 sponsors plaques with a big "HOLKER STREET END" sign (about the size of an advertising board) across the middle!! along with a few other bits we have planned for the HSE, it'll look 50% better. A lot of the other stuff we have planned is also very visable & will improve any spectators thoughts on the stadium as soon they walk up to & in the ground - from the outside, through the turnstiles & then into the actual ground itself.

I'm pretty positive we will get all the sponsors we need to cover most of the cost & as I say, we have the other money to make up any shortfall.

There was a sheet of corrugated metal lying on the pavement this morning on the stand side of Wilkie Road. I hope the wind hadn't dislodged it from the ground as it could have caused a nasty accident. The sooner we get things sorted the better.
