Re: Bayliss balks at AFC's new relegation budget
The bit where he says "..there was a lot more talk about speculating to accumulate" sends a shiver down my spine. A "realistic budget" as he refers to it is one where you know your income will cover your outgoings and anything else is a bonus - not one which allows us to compete at the top of the league but leaves us on the financial ropes.
It all comes 'round again.

I hate to be a pendant© but isn’t the word 'baulks'...?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
Re: Bayliss balks at AFC's new relegation budget
the sooner the football and rugby go into a shared stadium the better

I thought that when I first saw the title of the thread. At that time I hadn't seen the article in the EM.Wintergreen wrote:I hate to be a pendant© but isn’t the word 'baulks'...?
Then I saw the headline in the Mail.
They must be right ...surely?
Re: Bayliss balks at AFC's new relegation budget
'Balk' and 'Baulk' are acceptable variant spellings of the same word.Wintergreen wrote:I hate to be a pendant© but isn’t the word 'baulks'...?
'Pendant' and 'Pedant', on the other hand, are two completely different words!
Re: Bayliss balks at AFC's new relegation budget
Clearly that is not a budget for promotion. That's a budget set to get the finances in order which is understandable. If we could have crowds of 1000+ then it will help us get the finances in better order. But there's the warning from Bayliss- that budget won't allow (him) to compete. The concern is if we start with really bad results then how low will the crowds go? Floating fans don't come in when we are winning so if we are struggling in BSN then even the hardy 700 or so will start to lose faith.
If we are top 5/6 gates of 1000
if we are bottom 5/6 how low will the crowds go- 600/ 500? less?
that's a lot of lost revenue

That's a fair point jonty but after today I don't know what's true and what's mithJonty wrote:Clearly that is not a budget for promotion. As reading between lines feels like he's angling for a way out, and maybe just maybe he's not been honest ! I agree with your post and a good start is a must or as you say we'll be up the swany without a paddle

According to the Southport forum they are touting for Carl Macauley as their next manager.
Wonder what he could do with the Barrow budget?
Perhaps the BOD should ask him.

Macauley didn't exactly cover himself in glory the last time we were broke.

only fair, if he DB talks figures in the paper, that the board tell us how much they pay Dave.

Got told today a certain Board member is saying to people that ask him, that what DB says about the budget is wrong, and that you can double it.Bingo wrote:only fair, if he DB talks figures in the paper, that the board tell us how much they pay Dave.
