Good, strong win away from home. Some nice play throughout the game. A massive improvement over the draw with Accross. Only downside really was a sloppy 10 minutes from the U18's which ended up gifting the home side a goal.

U18s maintain their unbeaten run!
AFC Blackpool U18s 1-6 Barrow AFC U18s
The U18s produced a fine display away at Jepson Lane to win 6-1 at AFC Blackpool and maintain their lead at the top of the table. Despite a rough patch in the middle, the Bluebirds carried out a professional performance at the start and in the final 1/3 of the game to see the job done.
The team settled in quickly and within the first 10 minutes had produced number of good chances. Dec Bowman and Jamie Chick both went close but their efforts easily dealt with by the Tangerine keeper. However, their efforts finally paid off when Ben MacDonald worked hard under pressure in the area to fire past the keeper. Barrow continued to keep the ball in the AFC Blackpool half and more chances were created. A Dec Bowman curling effort just missed the far post, and his effort on the edge of the area tipped wide by the keeper. Barrow made it 2-0 on 25 minutes when Ross Shields met Ben MacDonald's corner to volley home. Blackpool rarely threatened in the first half and the back line coped easily. Pat Allingtons surging run from wide into the box wasn't dealt with and he was able to hit a left footed shot into the bottom right of the goal for 3-0 just before half time.
AFC Blackpool finally got into gear after the break and the Bluebirds had to endure a period of pressure. Their early efforts were dealt with by Jordan Belcher in goal but he couldn't stop their only goal which came when the ball wasn't cleared. AFC Blackpool continued to pile on the pressure and had large periods of play, but were unable to find an end product. Substitute Cain Scott's pace was too much for the defence as he sprung the offside trap and latched onto a through ball and raced into the box before firing into the bottom corner. The nervous period was over and Barrow went back to their usual style of trying to keep it, and at times, showed some excellent passing combinations. Mark Fare and Cain Scott produced a number of "hard to deal with" crosses in the second half, and it was Scott's ball who found Mikey Thomson in the area who made it 5. Ben MacDonalds long range free kick missed everybody and came back off the post, before Jamie Chick added a sixth. Scott's long range shot seemed to be rolling straight through to the keeper, but Chick switched on and despite calls for offside, managed to get to the ball first and took it around the keeper before passing into the empty goal. A sad end to the game when two AFC Blackpool players were sent off after the final whistle and we must praise how mature the situation was handled by our players.
Head Coach Dan Myles: "Last night was definitely our best all round performance of the 4 games we've played so far. After the last game against Accross we've worked hard in training in being better in possession of the ball, taking more care when we have it, and I think that showed last night as the lads played some excellent football at times and overall kept the ball really well. We went a bit sloppy after half time for 10-15mins when they scored, but we picked back up after that and responded well to their goal. We still need to be more ruthless and clinical in front of goal, as we missed 4 or 5 really good one on one chances that in tight games we need to start taking. I'm really pleased with how they played, and hope we can carry on playing in the same manner in our next game."
A great performance away from home to make it 10 points from a possible 12. We would like to thank AFC Blackpool for their excellent hospitality and wish them luck for the rest of the season. The U18s now must prepare for their next game when AFC Darwen travel to Holker Street on Monday 25th September, 7.30pm.

Re: AFC Blackpool U18's 1 - 6 Barrow AFC U18's
As a PE teacher is have to say its really encouring to have sides at youth level representing Barrow AFC, let alone to have these sides winning. It really is very encouraging. I think what will be really pleasing is when a player from the youth set up is regualrly starting for the first team. It is the first time i think we can start to use our geographical location to our advantage and keep the best local players at Barrow AFC rather than at preston, carlisle or other league clubs. As a teacher i have quite a bit of experience of acadamies in both football and rugby and can safely say thay are the lifeblood of the clubs. Keep up the good work.

Well done lads!
It'd be great to see a progression of players from the under 18s into the first team. Obviously it may be too much of a step up for some, but there must be a few lads who have the potential to play first team football. This is undoubtably the most positive thing happening at the club at the moment.

Hear hear, this is obviously a side worth watching and I might well have to go to the next game. Let's hope these lads and other recent events are helping everyone to be a lot more positive at Barrow AFC. When they walk into that new look changeroom they will feel special and that will only aid their already fantastic achievements.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

It's already happening, Mikey Thomson had 10mins in the Ramsbottom game and 20mins against Atherstone, and been in the squad for a couple of other games but stayed on the bench, all good experience for him, as well as attending training sessions with the first team along with Jordan Williams another player from the U18'sCokey wrote:

It's great stuff this, well done lads. I really like the fact at least one of the younger lads off the terraces, who goes home and away to Barrow when not playing, is in that side too
Hope to make it to a game soon, Mondays in
