How do you convince a player in a higher league to drop a division to join a team that might just end up dropping another division in the near future, Would anyone on here leave their job to work for a lesser company that was in a worse state?
We do need new players to stop us being relegated, but we also need them to stay if we stay up, if we go down all the new players we take on in the next few months will go, leaving us in an even worse state. Having said that, if we do drop down we could just play the U18's, they would get us back up.

Any player not getting games in a league 2 or Conf Prem side may want to drop down to Conf North on loan in order to actually play some games and keep match fit Dino. It happened with Accy loaning us Carver who did well for us but wasn't wanted by Accrington and had the timing been different we could have kept him till the end of the season.

None of the current under 18s are anywhere near up to this level, anyone who thinks they are is living in cloud cuckoo land. They'd get eaten alive if thrown into Conference North football on a regular basis. Thats not meant as a criticism of them, just a fact. Developing the youth set up further is an absolute must, but throwing them in now is out of the question.
As far as wingers go, are we going to recall Greg Mills? I know he was pretty dire, but surely Edmo will at least want a look at him. I think he's better than what we've got at the moment, which tells you how bad what we've got actually is.

Most of the current team isn't up to playing at this level, fact.Kieran wrote:None of the current under 18s are anywhere near up to this level, anyone who thinks they are is living in cloud cuckoo land. Given that both Bayliss & Meechan played a couple of the U18's and Edmo had one on the bench they must think they are ready to play at this level.
Have you seen the U18's play?
Hopefully Edmo will give a few of them a chance to show what they can do, and we'll see a few become regulars.
Re: BARROW vs Maidenhead FA Trophy
Agree to a point - ideally we would be mid table and we could blend and blood them into a settled side playing with a bit of confidence. To throw them in now would do them no favours whatsover. I believe there are a couple who would do ok in there in those circumstances, certainly they are more comfortable on the ball than some of the current squad.Kieran wrote:None of the current under 18s are anywhere near up to this level, anyone who thinks they are is living in cloud cuckoo land. The saying if you're good enough you're old enough also applies, and I'm guessing if Edmo can get things settled and some stabilty we could still see a few involved. For now I'd let them concentrate on the U18 league with invitations to train with the senior side.
Several are playing senior football with local sides, so don't think they'd get quite eaten alive, but it certainly would be a tough ask for them on a regular basis. Intoducing youth has to be carefully thought out and planned.
Re: BARROW vs Maidenhead FA Trophy
Yes, and they're far from being up to Conference North football, physically as much as ability wise.Dino wrote:

Mikey Thompson looks to have a bit of potential yes, but he was on the bench yesterday because he had to be and we had no one else to put there.
I am absolutely 100% behind the youth set up and see it as a vital part of the club's future, but if you really believe that throwing any of them in now would be a good thing for anyone involved then you need to give your head a wobble.
Re: BARROW vs Maidenhead FA Trophy
To be fair I think there is a big difference physically between playing in local Saturday football and playing at Conference North level, we've seen that in the past with some of the locals that have been involved. You only have to look at some of the under 18s to see that they would struggle physically at Conference North level.Big E wrote:]Several are playing senior football with local sides, so don't think they'd get quite eaten alive, but it certainly would be a tough ask for them on a regular basis.
Absolutely, and now would be the wrong time in every sense for everyone involved including the lads themselves.Big E wrote:Intoducing youth has to be carefully thought out and planned.

You also have to remember only about 5 of the side are actually over 18, the majority are still U17. My lad is one of the boys who has been invovled in 1st team, so I have mixed feelings. I want to see them given a chance, but also realise that it's probably not the best time for them. I still think if we can stabalise the side, it will be good to introduce them asap.Kieran wrote:To be fair I think there is a big difference physically between playing in local Saturday football and playing at Conference North level, we've seen that in the past with some of the locals that have been involved. Re: BARROW vs Maidenhead FA Trophy
If there really is lads in there that have the potential to be good enough, then I agree. What I'm disagreeing with is people suggesting that they should be thrown in now, it would be a disastrous things to do. I can't see us being in a position to do it this season, but when the time is right for all concerned then absolutely.Big E wrote:I still think if we can stabalise the side, it will be good to introduce them asap.

Aye, ten minutes here and there when we are a bit more stable, and plenty dialogue with the clubs they are at too, with correct respect shown for their input.
Also, is there any forward planning into what to do when anyone comes out of the U18's? Can we dual reg a group with say..Holker? Genuinly have no idea. Way back in the day Aberdeen used to let their youth into the Highland League with different teams for a season, but could call them back. Not saying this is the solution, but someone needs to be thinking about it.

Re: BARROW vs Maidenhead FA Trophy
Agree with this in that the better young players need to move to somewhere competitive enough between where they are now and Conf North level to see how they get on and setting up links with clubs such as Holker, Kendal, Lancaster etc may be a way forward?barrowaberdeen wrote:Aye, ten minutes here and there when we are a bit more stable, and plenty dialogue with the clubs they are at too, with correct respect shown for their input.
