Fascinating Fact

Post by Uncle Peter » Sat Feb 01, 2014 8:02 pm

We are currently 15 points off the play offs. In 2008, at this point in the season, we were also 15 points off the play offs.

Whilst I'm not suggesting we will reach the play offs, I'd never say never. Things are looking up.

Only a fool would bet money on us reaching the play-offs. But only a bigger fool would bet against it.

And if we do get promoted again - what then?

We're on record as saying that our time in Conference National was a financial disaster and we still haven't recovered.

Don't wish to shatter the dream but let's just savour the current moment! :)

If we go up again, we will do it in a way that cuts our cloth accordingly, only spending what we have.

Wish we did that in the first place wouldn't be in as much of a mess as we are in now.

Do I trust the board to do as you say I very much doubt it.

The reason the club is in the position it is today both on the football field and financially off it is because of what happened in 2008. We were unprepared then and we are unprepared now. Other than the cup runs it has been a backward spiral ever since. The simple reason the club is still here is because the noney generated from those two cup runs. Since Edmo came in we are enjoying a honeymoon period and going up to the top division will put pressure on our already empty bank accounts and without major investment could sea the end of this little club of ours. Let us enjoy a couple of seasons stability and have everything in order first, not jump out of the frying pan into the fire.

Another conundrum it would seem. Our steady progress is logically aspiring towards a league branded as a ‘killer’ by the club itself. Alongside the Keen Conundrum I’m calling this the Conference Conundrum. Its Catch 21 innit?

But of course the possibility of a new owner who may have wiped clean the slate might put yet another slant on matters! ;)

We were as ready as we could be in 2008 for the unexpected promotion. We weren't ready in 2010-11. That's when it started to come undone after we stretched too far trying to get to the next step. We had a poor season going out the FA cup and Trophy first games.

If we found ourselves with a chance for promotion again we would have to go for it, learning from the previous experiences.

7 more wins on the bounce and I'll start thinking about it.
