In each of his spell's here he was always very impressive but at the end of the loan periods he looked nothing like the player we'd had at the start. The way DB used him or just not good or consistent enough? Probably a bit of all three.
Yes, just think he's got great talent and think he could have stepped up a level (still could). Always liked watching him play and in a better team with better players around him would surely help with that.

Had a great first spell but really struggled second time round. I liked him, but I don't see him stepping up to the league.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.

Don't want to make this about Louis Almond but he is one of the best young players we've had in the last 5-6 seasons and his struggling in games during that second spell coincided with the whole team playing poorly. It wasn't as if he was playing poorly in a team who were flying.

jimmyg wrote:Listening to Edmo last night on Radio Cumbria, he summarised the game beautifully saying that too many players failed to perform. They seem to lack confidence and were probably suffering as a result of the poor results over the Christmas period. He clearly understands the game and had no problem in explaining why some time you have to play the ball long - it's nonsense to think that teams at this level can play fast flowing, fluid and attractive football for 90 minutes. I also thought he was extremely honest in saying that he always questions his own decisions and that he believes that other managers should do likewise. Edmo was clearly disappointed by the result against Hyde saying that he understands that supporters are feeling frustrated. He sounded quite emotional and asked people to be patient - success will follow. Hyde proved more of a challenge than expected but people should remember that there are no easy games, push overs or guaranteed 3 points in this league. Perhaps people have been unrealistic and automatic promotion is beyond this team. This might not be Barrow's year but Edmo will eventually turn things around - stay confident and keep faith with Edmo.
Good summary, thanks.

As for Almond, I don't recall him doing much for us after his first short spectacular spell. How can anyone judge him on 30 minutes or so last Sunday? I can't help thinking that if he was that good, he wouldn't be playing for Hyde.

The more the season goes on the more I have to question Edmondson and his selections, just from the Hyde game:
Why when Cowps was clearly struggling did we not change it round when ARH went off or put 5 across the middle?
Why wasn't Cribley recalled so we have a left sided player who is in form when others in the team aren't?
Why play some players out of position when there were other options?

In response to jimmyg we probably have the biggest squad and budget in Conf North and to say automatic promotion is beyond this team then I disagree. How many other teams in Conf North have a squad of more than 24 players (and 2 loaned from Preston)? Admittedly we do have injuries to some key players and some on loan but when a specific player gets injured or is dropped I don't think Edmo has much idea about his formation or what player to play in which position. Too many times we play players out of position or the wrong formation. Its also disappointing to hear the lack of communication from the bench and captain when things are going wrong. Edmo should take some of the blame himself rather than blaming his players all the time.

To make excuses about us not being guaranteed to get 3 points is appalling as they were absolutely shocking. If we can't beat a bottom-of the league side then who can we beat? Teams with championship aspirations shouldn't be coming out with excuses like that. Hyde didn't get a point, we threw 2 away because we were bad but needn't have been anywhere near as bad as we were.
