Or Simon Bishop!KHayman wrote:He's no Tim Deasy or Alan Martin.
I do get your point though Kieron, as I do with K_BFC about him admitting he was low on confidence (if that's what actually happened) but as I say, I'd feel more confident with Macca in goals for the run-in.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Why no substitute keeper on the bench?
We only have Edmo's word for it, after he was asked why McMillan was dropped. I think chris has it right, it probably doesn't matter which we have in. We probably feel better with McMillan even if the difference is not completely measurable.spirit of 1990 wrote:Or Simon Bishop!KHayman wrote:He's no Tim Deasy or Alan Martin.

Alan Martin is now playing in Scottish League Two, what a keeper he was

Re: Why no substitute keeper on the bench?
I don't think any of the keepers we have are good enough for this level, in my opinion Edmo and his scouts should have been out there looking to sign a decent keeper for the run in.
Surely there's a keeper from a league club, in the ilk of Alan Martin, bursting to get a game and show his "proper" manager what he's capable of.
I hope we do, but I sincerely doubt that we'll get promotion this year with the defence (left back excepted) and keepers we have at the moment.

Re: Why no substitute keeper on the bench?
It's hard to find a decent keeper to play Conference North - I can't think of a single better keeper in the division. The lad at Boston had a great game against us, but he's only a kid, and the only better keepers that would drop to this level are playing in the youth teams of Premier League and Championship clubs. And as has been the main criticism of Taylor, that would hardly inspire confidence.Billy Carbuncle wrote:I don't think any of the keepers we have are good enough for this level, in my opinion Edmo and his scouts should have been out there looking to sign a decent keeper for the run in.

For what it's worth, I think both of them are up there with the best in the division, but if we were promoted they'd be among the very worst.

May only be a kid but was an excellent keeper - wish we had him
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

Joel Dixon on loan from Sunderland, been at Sunderland since age 14. I believe he joined Boston on loan at age 20 on a youth loan, but is now on a different deal as he is 21. He did play for Workington Reds a year back, not sure if Edmo was in charge at the time I don't have the dates or games. Boston would have been stuffed if they didn't have him in nets when they played at Holker St.Ste Story wrote:Danny Hurst is better.
Boston lad is on loan from Sunderland I think it was but yeah looked good.

(Slightly off topic) wonder if we ever tried asking Boro or Sunderland for loan players after we played them in the cup

No, it was Bayliss and Sheridan. Don't know what they're doing these days.mrsenario wrote:who were the managers then and where are they now...was it southgate and bruce?

Its good to see we seem to be making a bit of a relationship with PNE, could do a lot worse. I think we should be looking to team up with a league club, say PNE, let them use us as a feeder type club and send us a few young loaners every season, can do no harm.HenneysKnee wrote:(Slightly off topic) wonder if we ever tried asking Boro or Sunderland for loan players after we played them in the cup

I was talking to someone who works for Andy Piley over the weekend. He said Fleetwood were trying to link up with PSV Eindhoven.
